If you are a naturally spacey person, you probably react to boredom, exhaustion and stress in the same way—your eyes fixate on a random object, your vision softens, and you stare... for like, minutes at a time. The chaos of the world surrounds your peaceful, concentrated bubble that so effortlessly bops around the madness. You are escaped, you are blissful and you are also pretty familiar with the following struggles:
1. People waving their hands in front of your dazed eyes
Don't burst the bubble! It's especially disappointing when it's someone who should know better-- we thought we could trust you.
2. Friends thinking you're ignoring them when you're actually still listening
Wait it out; it'll end. In the wise words of Paul McCartney, "there will be an answer, let it be."
3. "Woah, your eyes are huge right now."
Don't be critical of my coping mechanism.
4. Realizing you did not digest one word from the lecture at the end of class
Oh! I took these notes? Impressive.
5. Smiling to yourself in public in a completely humorless situation
It may be a one-on-one conversation, it may be in front of the class... but when that hilarious time that girl got stuck hanging on the gym equipment surfaces, it's no longer a matter of if I'll laugh, but a matter of minimizing the awkward.
6. Forgetting what you were just doing
Maybe I do spend half my life looking for things I just had two seconds ago, but there's nothing sweeter than a reunion, and I like always being on my toes.
7. Accidentally staring at someone directly in the eyes
That's right—look away.
8. Being incapable of reading mystery novels or watching movies that make you think
"How was the movie last night?"
9. Being really bad at telling stories
My story did have an original purpose, but I'm forgetting it now and I'm starting to feel anxious. *Quick, do something!*
10. Having the talent of observing things that don't really stand out/matter to other people
It makes life so much more entertaining!
