10 Things You Need to Experience

Ten amazing sensations that will make your life so much better.

Even though I've been alive for less than two decades, I've been lucky enough to have some amazing experiences throughout my years. Some of these are really basic, but I couldn't leave them out.

1) Swimming in a Pool at Night

Swimming at night just feels completely different from swimming during the day, and it's sensational. When you're in a well-lit pool it makes the water look like it's glowing and serves as a contrast against the darkness of the night. You can see yourself and everyone else in the pool, but nothing else. How sick is that?

2) Blasting Music with the Top Down

This is what I meant by basic. Even so, it's still an unbeatable feeling to have your hair blowing behind you and feel the bass of the music beating against your chest.

3) Reading at the Fireplace

Again, basic, but it doesn't even matter because it belongs on this list. If you have a fireplace, turn it on, grab a "book you can't put down", make yourself some hot cocoa, pull up a comfy chair in front of the fire, and GET READING! I promise it'll be the best lonely night you'll ever have.

4) Cuddling in Front of the TV

I'm pretty sure this is what "Netflix & Chill" was originally supposed to be before it went downhill. This doesn't even have to be with your significant other. It can be a friend or family member and it will feel just as nice to snuggle up with them and watch some television.

5) Thick Blankets on a Freezing Night

This one is just pure gold. Tucking yourself into bed at night under a giant duvet to warm yourself from the bitter cold air during the winter... ah. Nothing compares. It feels like clouds of marshmallows and coziness are swallowing your body whole (in the best way possible).

6) Fulfilling Your Great Thirst/Hunger

This might be more of a "human necessity to sustain life" than simply a "good feeling" but you have to admit, stuffing your face with delicious food when you're starving (or even when you're not) just makes everything feel better for a little while. And don't even get me started on waking up in the middle of the night from feeling like you're in a drought and gulping down cold water. It's miraculous.

7) Surfing the Sunrise

If you're on the east coast, surf the sunrise. Feeling the sun's rays gradually strengthening behind you as you ride the waves is honestly something else. There aren't as many people crowding the beach during the sunrise, so it's just you, the yogis, the runners, and the beach. Plus, you get to leave the beach with the sun high in the sky and an entire wonderful day ahead of you.

8) Singing/Rapping Along to (Most of) a Song

We've all got that one track we know all the words to, and long for the moment when it comes on the radio so we can sing alone and stun everyone with our skills. Especially if it's a super fast rap song and we manage stay on top of the beat the entire time.

9) Finishing a Run (With a Good Time)

Finishing any run is a marvellous feeling because it means you're finally done and the suffering is over. But when you finish with a good time (rare for me) it's even more rewarding because it pays off for all the pain that you went through for the entirety of your workout and makes you beam with pride that you were able to push through all of it. (P.S. the GIF is very inaccurate. No one looks like that when they cross the finish line.)

10) Reuniting With Someone You Love

Last, but definitely not least - this one is major! Getting to see someone you love again after a period of separation that lasted way too long sends loads of warm fuzzies through your body and makes your heart flutter. Even if there are astounding places and things on this earth to love, there is nothing else like a person who can make your heart smile.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
