10 Things to Watch On Netflix This Winter Break

Finals week is finally over and you officially have all of winter break to watch Netflix. If you’re like me, you’ve seen almost all the episodes of most of the good shows on Netflix, so you’re stuck between re-watching a show, or finding something new, or watching a movie. This article is a list of 10 shows and movies that you can binge watch on Netflix during your winter break, and not have any guilt about it.

  1. Gossip Girl

Although this is an older show, it definitely is worth the watch. I think I’ve watch all 6 seasons AT LEAST 3 times if not more. My annoyance with Vanessa always seems to get stronger every time I watch, as does my obsession with Chuck and Blair. The show is full of drama and I swear everyone in the show is insanely attractive. Anyway, 10/10 recommend.

2. Pretty Little Liars

Again, if you’re like me and my friends in grade school, all of us read the books before it was even a TV show. The show, much like the books, is near impossible to to turn off. I could literally watch a season in a whole day if it was socially acceptable to (which this winter break it totally will be.) This show is kind of like the modern day gossip girl, and again, for some reason everyone in the show is ridiculously beautiful.

3. The Office

If you’ve never seen The Office you are seriously missing out. It is the only show where ‘smoking can save lives’ (S2E4), and you can watch Michael Scott survive in the woods (S4E7). All 9 seasons are hilarious, (until Michael Scott leaves but still), and every episode is even funnier than the last. From Jim’s pranks on Dwight, to Michael and Jan’s abnormal relationship, you’re always guaranteed a laugh.

4. Vampire Diaries

Vampire Diaries also has books, and while I didn’t read them, I still am obsessed with the show. It has it all; from drama, to romance, to action, Vampire Diaries is seriously one show not to miss. Not only is it hard to turn off because it’s so addicting, but also there’s 8 seasons so it might take you a while to get through them.

5. Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds is still on TV, but before you watch it on TV you have to catch up on Netflix. I believe there’s 11 seasons on Netflix, and each episode is 40 minutes, so you won’t run out of episodes for a while. It’s similar to CSI and shows of that sort, but I personally think it’s much better.

6. Lizzie McGuire

I so wish the show was on Netflix, but for right now I can most certainly settle for the movie. Growing up, Lizzie McGuire was definitely my favorite show, and the movie is still one of the best. Hillary Duff used to be one of my favorite actress’, and The Lizzie McGuire movie is one of those feel good Disney classics that we all know and love.

7. 13 Going On 30

This movie is one of my favorites!! (Again lol) It’s for every teenage girl that was constantly wishing they were older and could do their own things and make their own decisions. Now that I’m in college I wish I was still considered a kid, and didn’t have to pay my own bills and pay my own rent, but this movie kind of brings me back to being a 90’s baby.

8. Mean Girls

Mean Girls is a classic. Well, not really, but I’m sure almost every teenage girl has seen it. It’s funny, and although it isn’t an actual representation of the high school that I went to, it’s definitely original. If you haven’t already, I would highly highly highly recommend watching it; and if you have, why not re-watch it again.

9. The Best of Me

I have legitimately watched this movie at least 20 times. I’m not even joking, I could watch and re-watch this movie on a weekly basis. As a huge fan of anything Nicholas Sparks, this book is one of my favorites from him, even more than The Notebook. If you ever find yourself in a sad sappy mood, turn on The Best of Me. Actually, you don’t even have to be in a sappy mood, any time is a good time to watch this movie.

10. The Hannah Montana Movie

Last but certainly not least is the Hannah Montana Movie. Much like Lizzie McGuire, I wish the TV show was on Netflix but until then I can just watch the movie over and over again.

Well that’s all for this article. I hope everyone enjoys their winter break; I know I will because I’ll have plenty of shows and movies to watch. It’s near impossible to not be able to find something to watch on Netflix, but there’s always Hulu!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
