Choose Chicago

Nothing sounds better than enjoying the lake without profusely sweating or catching frostbite.

The best season of the year is upon us where the leaves turn different shades of crimson and city strollers walk past with steaming chai lattes from Metropolis in their hands while wearing their favorite sweaters. If this sounds palatable to you then here is a list of ten autumn-esque things to do in Chicago when the air turns crisp:

1. Stroll along the lakefront.

Nothing sounds better than enjoying the lake without profusely sweating or catching frostbite.

2. Visit a museum.

During the fall there are plenty opportunities for free admission to our beautiful museums. Take advantage of those offers.

3. Go on a Goose Island brewery tour.

We all love a good beer-- especially one that originated from our own city. Nothing says "Hoppy Fall" like a good 'ole 312.

4. Bring your work or studies into a local coffee shop.

Nothing is more relaxing than good coffee, good food, a good book. and some good ambience. Chicago's cafe industry is thriving with coffee shops on every corner.

5. Bears game.

We know things haven't been going great, but we still love Da Bears and our futuristic-looking Soldier Field.

6. Bucktown Apple Pie Contest.

As apples are coming into season, finally, apple pies start creeping up onto bakery shelves. Chicago loves them so much, they hold an Apple Pie contest in Bucktown.

7. Thrift.

Let's face it-- sweater weather can be expensive. Luckily, there are tons of hip thrift stores in the Chicagoland area waiting to be scavenged for retro and cool finds to keep you cozy this fall.

8. Halloween Bar Crawls.

Ah, another excuse for a fun bar crawl. Not only is Halloween one of the most fun holidays in the city, but it is even more fun with the task of accomplishing a bar crawl in a costume.

9. Picnic at Millennium Park.

With a beautiful view of the city, you can't go wrong with picnicking at Millennium Park at any time of the year (well, maybe not in January). In the fall, the park is lined with fiery trees even more pleasing to the eye. Make it into a date, plan a fun lunch with your friends, or go solo.

10. Ride the new ferris wheel at Navy Pier.

With a brand new ferris wheel, the sights of the city and the fall colors can be captured in a single ride. It's not even expensive to take this iconic part of Chicago for a ride.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
