Having siblings is awesome and I've been blessed with some pretty great ones. However, when you have one sibling that is considerably older than you (especially an older sister), you may run into some interesting conversations and situations. Here's what it's like when you really are the baby of the family.
1. Everyone thought I was her kid.
Yes, that's how much older my sister is than me... When I was a baby, people thought she was my mom. Weird. It's even funnier now because her oldest son and I are the same amount of years apart that my sister and I are, so I get the same reaction she did.
2. I was always a hit among her friends.
In fact, some of her boyfriends brought me presents after they broke up... Talk about awkward.
3. She was (and still is) like a second mom to me.
She's a successful woman and I'm still figuring out "how to adult," so it's only fitting I ask her for advice because she's still young and hip... Kind of. (Kidding.) And she gives the best advice.
4. She always has my back.
Any time I text or call her and tell her I'm upset, my phone is blown up with the following: "Who is he?" "What's his name?" And she always ends with: "Do I need to hurt him?"
5. She takes pride in knowing exactly what to do to embarrass me.
In fact, I feel like it's one of her favorite pastimes—one she's highly skilled in.
6. We always have fun together.
Family gatherings, shopping, dinner dates—no matter what it is, we always manage to have a good time.
7. I get to be the "cool aunt."
Oh, your mom won't let you have ice cream for dinner? She won't let you play the Wii all day? Wait, you didn't get a toy when you went to Walmart earlier? Cool Aunt will save the day! (Because I know she'll spoil my kids the same way one day.)
8. We're a lot more alike than we thought.
As we've both gotten older, we've realized just how much we have in common. It's cool and kind of creepy at times, but mostly cool.
9. I look up to her more than she'll ever know.
I could never tell her enough how proud I am of her and how much she means to me.
And lastly...
10. She's my best friend.
I know no matter what happens, she'll always be there for me and I'll always be there for her.
