10 Things To Be Thankful For When You're In College

Never in my life have naps been more beneficial.

10 Things To Be Thankful For When You're In College

I think we tend to be a bit forgetful during Thanksgiving season when it comes to what we're thankful for. I mean, of course, we're thankful for family, friends, a home, clothes and all that good stuff. However, through my experience as a freshman college student, I have realized that sometimes its the little things that can make the biggest difference in our lives. So I think it's time for us to be thankful for these things. So here are 10 little things that I'm thankful for...

1. Student discounts

There is nothing better than walking into Old Navy in need of some winter outfits only to come to a cashier that says to you "Students receive a 10% discount on all purchases." Ultimately, you could be spending more money on things that you don't need than you do when you're at home, but at least you get that student discount!

2. Friends with cars

What do you do when you need to get somewhere and you're in college? Obviously, you get a friend who has a car to take you.

It is these friends that I am thankful for around this time of year. I try to pay them back in gas money for their service, however, if you're short on your finances, a simple thank you and a nice warm hug should suffice.

3. Nice professors

Let's face it, when you are blessed with a professor that is flexible with deadlines and frequently dismisses class early, words cannot express the amount of gratitude that passes over your soul. So many horror stories are spread about professors to the point where I just want to take all of my classes online (but even then, sometimes your computer can be your hardest professor). So it is professors like these who I am thankful for!

4. Scholarships!!!

I would not be here without these. Period.

5. Meal plans

After plowing through a history test on the Great Depression, there's nothing better than being able to go to the cafeteria and finding myself amidst a plethora of food items. This is especially helpful for those days where I don't get breakfast (those days are pretty much every day).

6. Netflix (or knowing someone who has Netflix)

I call it my piece of mind. Being able to watch as many episodes of "Bob's Burgers" as I please after a long day at school. Thank you, Netflix for being there for me even when I couldn't be there for myself.

10. Nap time

One of the greatest things about college is the ability to fully control your schedule. You may have a class on Monday at 9 am, but your next class may not be until 1:30 pm, so in the meantime, you know what you could be doing?

SLEEPING!!

Sleep is so good! I love it so much. Therefore, I am thankful for nap time and all of the benefits that I receive from it.

I hope that this list inspires you to think of the small things that we can be thankful for not just as college students but as human beings as well. There are people in our lives that we can take for granted because they become so natural and therefore expected. So take a chance to look for these people because if they weren't there, you wouldn't be able to live life the way you are living it now. Also, don't wait until Thanksgiving to say "thank you" to your people. Be thankful all the time. Blessings, my friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
