10 Things Short People Are Tired Of Dealing With

It just really gets old.

Being short has its benefits. Being able to fit through small doorways and... yeah that's about it. For the most part, being short is a major inconvenience. There are so many times where I think to myself, "wow, I wish I was at least a couple inches taller so I could reach this."

Not only is it inconvenient, but I hear the same hilarious comments every single day. It gets pretty repetitive hearing "you're so short" when I stand next to someone, as if I had no clue that I was below average height before they told me.

If you're short, I'm sure this list of daily short girl struggles will be something you can relate to:

1. People putting things on higher shelves just to mess with you.

*eye roll*

Like seriously... that stopped being funny the first time it happened.

2. When you're in a big crowd (like at a concert) and your face is at everyone else's elbows.

You really have to be alert and agile enough to duck all of the flying elbows coming at your face or else you'll risk a few black eyes. Or just hop on someones shoulders!

3. Having to ask people to reach things for you.

And every time you ask it feels as if you are sacrificing your own pride.

4. Nobody ever believes you when you tell them your age.

"No way!! You're 20?! You literally look like you're 12, that's crazy!"

Like really... 12-YEARS-OLD? I mean I know I look young but 12?!

5. My dad telling me every single day to make sure I drive carefully because "short females are statistically the most likely to die instantly in a car accident."

Thank you, Dad. That is exactly what I want to hear before I get behind the wheel.

6. Becoming a human arm rest.

It's fine at first. Until a dozen people have put their arm on your head within the last hour and messed up your hair way too many times for you to even care about it anymore.

7. Not EVER being taken seriously.

This makes being angry extremely difficult because people just mock you as if you are joking. They typically regret it when you blow up in their face.

8. Not being able to keep up when you're walking with your tall friends.

Short legs means shorter steps and no one seems to understand that.

9. "I know you probably HATE hearing how young you look, but don't worry you'll love it when you're 40!"

So... you just said that you know I hate being told that... but you are telling me that right now... do you want me to hate you too?

10. "You make me feel so tall!"

Yep, that is exactly what I'm here for.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
