After a visit to the local library, I remembered all of the reasons I used to visit and the fun times I had in my childhood. For those of us who were "frequent fliers" at the library, you should definitely understand these feelings you had when you went to check out books.
1. You're immediately overwhelmed/filled with joy at the number of books you could read.
With shelves upon shelves of possibilities, it's easy to get a little bit emotional about checking out a book. When it's for "fun," a huge selection of books can be great, but if it's for school, good luck!
2. For most of the visit, your view of the books is sideways.
It's so much harder to see the books when your head is straight up, but your neck definitely thinks otherwise.
3. You have that one place where you always sit to read your books.
Everybody likes to be comfortable when they're reading their favorite book! Having a designated spot to read is like your home away from home, and when someone takes it, it's just not the same.
4. You have your library card number memorized.
The faster and easier it is to recite your library card number means the faster it is to check out more books. When you're young, this number is up with your address and phone number on the scale of importance.
5. Requesting a book that has a waiting list is the worst.
It's very rare that you'll get a super popular book right off the shelves, meaning you have to wait forever to check it out. Let's hope next time you find out about a book before it's mainstream.
6. The only feeling better than checking out a stack of books is turning them in finished.
And putting them in the return slide.
7. No matter who you are, it's always too quiet.
Unless you're the librarian, the silence of the library is at least a little awkward.
8. You have a go-to section.
And you can tell when it's been changed or more books have been added. YA, Crime fiction, or even the non fictions, you have a favorite section and can be found there at least once a visit.
9. You never know how many books to check out!
Will you have all the time in the world, or barely any? It's a constant struggle between trying to set the world record for most books read in a week, or reality.
10. You actually enjoy going to the library.
Shocking, I know, but some of us just love books.
