In an attempt to find something new to write about, I came across, not only one, but hundreds of things I would have never imagined if I hadn't searched for them. I found that our world is full of random peculiarities and for your pleasure, here are 10 incredibly weird things that have most likely never crossed your mind.
1. During your lifetime, you will produce enough saliva to fill 2 swimming pools. (25,000 quarts!)
2. Banging your head against a wall burns 150 calories an hour.
(Looks like college frustrations do have good turnouts!)
3. The French language has 17 different words for "surrender."
ABANDONNER, CAPITULATION, REMETTRE, REMISE, RENDRE, CONCEDE, LIVRER, ABDIQUER (...)
4. A baby octopus is about the size of a flea or a grain of rice when it is born.
5. Birds don't urinate.
"We can concentrate urea more than ammonia, so we can urinate less and conserve water. Reptiles and birds, on the other hand, convert ammonia to uric acid, which is even less toxic than urea. In fact, uric acid doesn't need any water at all -- they can excrete it as a solid and conserve as much water as possible." -UCSB SCIENCELINE
6. According to Genesis 1:20-22 the chicken came before the egg.
20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
7. The word "slut" was originally used to describe a woman who didn't clean her room.
8. A study done about an inhibitory spillover effect found that it is easier to lie when you have to pee.
9. Baby elephants suck on their trunks for comfort just like babies suck on their thumbs.
10. Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell.
So there you have it. I encourage you to share these super random facts with someone, spread the knowledge and promote enlightenment. You never know when it could become handy for someone to know when to lie or how big a baby octopus is. Oh, and if you couldn't work out this week because of school? No biggie! Just bang your head against a wall! (Kidding...kind of).
