10 Things I Love About the Holiday Season

10 Things I Love About the Holiday Season

This time of the year is when snow is starting to fall, people are buying presents, and everyone can feel the holiday spirit in the air. Here are some of my favorite parts of the season.


1. Holiday songs

Who doesn't love singing along to a favorite Christmas song? A few of my all time favorites are Winter Wonderland, Deck the Halls, and O Holy Night.


2. Winter Break

Not only do college students get a break for Christmas through New Year's, but we get a full month! Time to relax and enjoy no responsibilities.


3. Goodies and treats

Essentially candy canes and chocolate covered everything.


4. Lights everywhere

Whether you're in a store filled with trees and ornaments, or just driving around town looking at houses, you will find some beautiful lights displays.


5. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Come on, we live in Wisconsin. It's bound to be a white Christmas (except this year, apparently). Also, who doesn't love a spontaneous snowball fight?


6. Classic holiday movies

I love watching original movies like The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.


7. Quirky family traditions

My family has some strange customs such as a White Elephant gift exchange turned into a Monopoly money auction, playing board games on Christmas eve, and caramel rolls for Christmas morning breakfast. Each of these make our Christmas unique and I wouldn't trade it for the world.


8. Excitement in the air

People always seem to be in a good mood during the holidays, and acts of kindness are all around us. This is the time of year where love, joy, and hope prosper.


9. Sledding and ice skating

These are only available around this time of year and there are always great memories made from these cold weather activities.


10. Quality time with the family

As crazy as they seem, I absolutely love my family. I love getting to catch up and spend quality time talking with them. It doesn't matter if it's my extended or immediate family, we always get to spend more time together at this time of year, which makes it extra special.

The holiday season is such a special time of the year, full of cold weather, traditions, and love. Here's to a wonderful holiday season for everyone!
