10 Things I've Learned from Grey's Anatomy

I began binge watching Grey's Anatomy when I had mono the summer before my freshmen year of college and the past twelve seasons have taught me more than just to push two of epi.

1. Hold on to the things that matter to you.
The doctors hold on to the things they care about and fight like hell. Meredith balances being a mother and a doctor, despite the challenges of both. April holds on tight to her religion even though it brings her ridicule. If you care about something, don't let it go.

2. If you have a dream, don't give it up.
Even when April failed the boards, she never gave up on being a doctor. Pursue your dreams, even when it seems impossible to reach them.

3. Or if you find a new dream, that's okay.
The doctors started out as interns and changed their specialties plenty of times before settling in where they are now. It's okay to change your mind and pursue a new dream.

4. You're going to fail sometimes, and that's okay too.
The doctors haven't been able to save every patient that has come through the doors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but they're still learning and they're still successful. Failure does not mean you've reached the end.

5. Chase big things, even if they scare you.
Christina left Grey Sloan and all the people she loved to move to Zurich and take over Burke's hospital, even though leaving scared her. Her career meant more to her and Christina wouldn't let anyone hold her back. Chase bigger and better, even if you're afraid.

6. Always be the bigger person.
The doctors have had to talk down gunmen and save the lives of criminals in several episodes, but they've always remained heroes. While they were faced with ethical conflicts during some cases, they always try to save lives first. Be the better person, even when it's difficult.

7. Support the people you love.
The interns supported George when he decided to join the Army. Meredith supported Christina when she left Seattle. Meredith supported Derek when he went to work in DC. Support the people you love, even if it means you'll have to miss them.

8. Don't live in other people's shadows.
Meredith struggled to break out of her mother's shadow during the first few seasons, but she became a successful doctor and mother without Ellis' help. Jackson faced the same struggle living in the shadow of his grandfather, Harper Avery but he found success at Grey Sloan. You can break out of the shadows of other people and be successful on your own.

9. When things get tough, dance it out.
You can't control every situation or struggle you're confronted with, but you can control your attitude. Don't stress, dance it out.

10. And when all else fails, tequila.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
