Being a girl is tough. We're often being judged for our appearance or our interests and often, we're sexualized in every little thing we do. Sometimes that can be a little too hard to handle. Every once and a while we need someone to calm us down and remind us that the little things don't matter. Us girls need to band together to show support and spread nothing but positivity. Hopefully, this article does just that.
Girls of all races, sizes, ages, and backgrounds, listen up.
You don’t have to be hairless
You don’t have to shave every inch of your body. You don’t have to go through the painful process of waxing. You don’t have to pay insane amounts of money for laser hair removal. Hair is natural, you don’t have to be ashamed of it. Skip a shave if you don’t have time, and if anyone comments on it, put them in their place. You shouldn’t have to alter your body for anyone except you.
You can like cars and hunting and sports or anything else labeled as “masculine”
If you enjoy any of these things, you are not weird. You are not a tomboy. You are not trying to impress men. You are a girl, and you have interests. Love them and succeed in whatever areas you want.
You can like pink and makeup and RomComs or anything else labeled “feminine”
You have a right to love anything that makes you happy. Liking traditionally feminine things does not make you too girly, too weak, or too emotional. You are a human being and no one should degrade you for living your life.
You don’t have to be a certain age to fulfill your dreams
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you aren’t old enough, smart enough, or strong enough to achieve a goal. Take that as motivation, and go show them you are capable to accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Your life is not a predetermined timeline
You don’t have to find a husband by 25. You don’t have to have children by 30. You don’t have to get married. You don't have to do anything you don't want to. You shouldn’t have to worry whether or not you’re fulfilling society’s checklist. You do you girl.
Your body is your own and should look however you want it to
No one else should control your body. Stand up for what you want and defend against what you don't want. Wear whatever clothes make you feel comfortable, confident, and yourself. Dress in short skirts or wear turtlenecks--embrace your style. Get a tattoo if you want one. Wing your eyeliner. Workout to develop rock-hard abs or eat cheesecake because it makes you happy. You don’t need to impress anyone with how you look, impress them with your free-spirited mind and beautiful soul.
Don’t spread rumors
Gossip is everywhere, but it doesn’t have to and shouldn't come from your mouth. Don’t pass judgements, everyone else is going through difficult things you might not know about. Stand up for those who don’t have a voice and spread positive words of kindness.
Be kind to those you love and even kinder to those you don’t
Hold your head high, but don’t lose sight of those around or below you. Show compassion in whatever ways you can and fight hatred with love. Not everyone is going to like you, but kill them with kindness and give them nothing to hold against you. Be thankful for those who stick by you through thick and thin, and be a loyal friend for those who don't have any at all.
A boy does not determine your happiness
Attention and compliments are always a mood booster, but you do not need those things to feel complete. Be happy on your own and strive to be a better person than you were yesterday. If he doesn’t help you do that, he’s not worth it. Keep your chin up darling, and don’t ever let a boy ruin your mascara.
You are just as strong, just as smart, and just as important as any man in your life
Don’t ever think that you aren’t capable of anything because of your sex. If someone tells you that you run “like a girl,” run faster and blow past them. Show everyone that you’re unstoppable and prove that girls can be superheroes too.
Never forget: you are beautiful, you are loved, and you are one-of-a-kind.
