With the first few weeks of classes beginning, we've all started to settle in. We're trying to be on our best behavior by making it to class on time, asking questions, and dressing our best. As the weeks go on, however, we end up reverting to the students we usually are, which is generally lazy and uncaring. Little do we actually know that it gets progressively worse as the semester goes. Here are the ten things every college student does in class:
1. Actually pays attention
You show up early with your supplies ready. Your assignment is done and you are ready to soak up every bit of knowledge the professor has for you.
2. Takes notes
Professors usually talk very fast and they don’t give you enough time to even see the notes on the board-- much less even hear them-- but you are typing or writing faster than you thought was humanly possible.
3. Takes a nap
We all get tired sometimes, and often the room is that perfect temperature and the lights are off and you start to feel the effects of being up all the night before.
4. Shows up late to class
Sometimes the class you have before this one gets out late or the weather gets in your way, but if it’s a class before 2 P.M., most likely you're late because you overslept.
5. Daydream
Let's face it: sometimes class is incredibly boring. The only way to get through it is to try to forget you are listening to something so dull.
6. Checks the time for half of the class
What time is it? How much time is left in class? When will this professor stop talking?
7. Food
You may sneak a snack during class or eat a five-course meal, but food is a necessity no matter the time.
8. Brings out the laptop to watch Netflix or whatever game is on
Netflix is way more interesting than cell division. By the time it's March, more than half of the laptops have a basketball game on the screen.
9. Thinks that using your phone under the desk won’t get you caught
You gotta check that text or respond to that snap, but when the professor eventually catches you, you claim to have been looking up something related to the class.
10. Who goes to class?
Sometimes you aren’t feeling it and just don’t show up. There are plenty of people who don’t go to class unless there is an exam.
Even though it seems like some of these are unavoidable, try your best to avoid ones that might really hurt your grade such as watching Netflix in class. Gossip Girl will be there when class is over, ladies and gentlemen. Good Luck this Semester!
