10 Things Every Bisexual Hears

It is not just a phase.

Sometimes being acknowledged in a community can be difficult, let alone being excepted and understood in everyday society. I have noticed in my own life how being Bi-sexual has been seen as a phase or "not real" so here are 10 things every Bisexual hears in college.

1. IT'S JUST A PHASE

Everyone has heard this saying at least once in their lives about something, but let me tell you... Bisexuals hear it ALL the time from everyone around them on a daily basis. A phase lasts maybe a year or so max.. but I have been bisexual for as long as I can remember.

2. So you're with (opposite gender)...so you're straight now?

NO. Just because I am a girl and have a boyfriend does NOT mean I am straight.. I still check out girls often. again, not a phase.

3. You're just experimenting.

Again, NO. some people choose to come out during college because they are away from their family lives and feel free to do so. this does not mean that we are "experimenting" .. we are finally who we really are.

4. You're just afraid of committing to one gender and wanna "keep your options open".

I understand many do not want to take the time to comprehend that bisexuals are able to be committed in a relationship.. but we can. I am attracted to men and women but I have been in the same relationship for 4 and a half years!

5. So...you have threesomes all of the time?

Many believe that every bisexual only has threesomes... NO this is not true at all. I know many (me included) bisexuals that are in monotonous relationships with their significant other and have never had a threesome.

6. You're just transitioning.

I have heard this from people in the LGBT community a couple of times. Some people think that being bisexual is just a middle ground to being gay. I have heard people in the LGBT community refer to being Bisexual as a middle ground between gay and straight... I'm sorry but that is 100% wrong.

7. You're following a trend.

In the past couple of years being a part of the LGBT community has been seen as a "trend" to some.. which is completely ridiculous. Just because more people feel safe to be themselves, it does not make it a trend or a joke.

8. Yeah but...Everyone is bisexual.

This is very untrue. For some reason (especially in college) everyone assumes that maybe everyone is bisexual in reality. I know for a fact that there are 100% straight people in the world who would never even think of being bisexual.

9. So...what percentage are you straight?

Okay, so I will admit to answering this question jokingly, saying "hmm 80% girls and 20% guys" But there really isn't a percentage. Yes some bisexuals (like me) lean more to one gender than the other, but I am equally attracted to both genders and I will be forever.

10. "Umm, you like girls... huh huh huh... that's hot..."

Granted, girls get this more than bisexual boys but, it is still valid. DAILY I hear how "hot" it is to be bisexual and still like girl. going back to #5, bisexuals do not want threesomes all of the time just because we like two genders. sure I can be "hot" for different reasons but come on.

Okay, so this article seemed like a tiny rant, but truly it is in all good fun. There is just a lot of stigma coming from both sides of the community concerning people who identify as bisexual. Of course, I have only experienced these 10 things, but I am sure there are many more. I am super happy to be able to come out to everyone one in my college life and I am hoping this article can make someone out there comfortable to be themselves too!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
