You're done with finals, you've packed your bags, your parents are en route to pick you up... it's time to go home for the hibernation period that is winter break! It's a time to relax, regroup and recognize that your liver and your body need a break from all the insanity you've put it through. Here's some ideas of a few things to pry yourself out of bed for...
1. Ski/Snowboard Trips
Whether it's with your friends or with the family, a good trip to the mountain is always a fun idea. Especially when you have zero skills and everyone watches you either fly down the mountain or faceplant when you try and stop.
2. Rockefeller Center
Last year I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Rockefeller center with my best friend and it was probably one of the best times I've had, and, yes, I face-planted ice skating but it was so much fun that I would never regret it.
3. Snow Tubing
Especially at night this is always a fun activity that turns crazy very quickly. Competition ensues and you've got pushing, shoving and near disowning.
4. Family Time
One of the the best parts of being home for winter break is actually being with your family. Of course you want to be with your friends and go to all of your favorite restaurants and sleep in your bed... but your parents actually want to spend time with you, hear the PG version of all your college stories, and spend time together. Remember they are the ones putting you through school.
5. Holiday Movies
BC Family always has some different holiday movie marathon going on, and for me, personally I am glued to my couch during the 25 Days of Christmas Countdown. Making a movie night with friends/family is also really fun because then there's plenty of food, stories and bad jokes during the movie.
6. Festive Food Time
Whether it's breakfast for dinner or different themed dinners, it's always fun to make dinners around the holiday season. Gingerbread houses galore! (maybe even have an icing war with the extra? It's a lot more fun than it sounds).
7. Sleeping
You've barely had it at school from going out so much but now you can finally catch up on all the z's you've been missing. Who doesn't love just staying in bed until 3 pm and only leaving to get the food you have left over from last night?
8. Hometown Friends REUNION
I know the first thing I do when I get home for any break is call my friends and see who's home. Because reunions mean food, which leads to long car rides and catching up on all the stupid things we've done since we last saw each other. Seeing friends and hearing their stories about their poor decisions make you feel somewhat better about your own poor ones.
9. Restaurant adventures
One of the best things to do when you're home is to see what new restaurants have popped up in your hometown (or surrounding towns). The new Italian place could become you and your friends' newest hot spot.
10. RELAX
There is a reason why it's called a break, it means that it's time for you to worry less and take some time for yourself. So don't think about the classes you have next semester or the professors you don't know about yet, just take your break, eat some food, and get some sleep!
So if you find yourself looking for something to do this winter break look back at this article, maybe you'll even find an adventure of your own. :)
