Nothing is more fun than having an aspect of your identity questioned! Jk. Basically, anything is more fun.
Because people seem to want to put every race into a box of what they have to be as if people aren't all completely different. As if that isn't one of the best things about people. It's hard enough to have others' expectations imposed on you the second they see you just from what they can assume about you.
It is even harder when you realize how wrong they are about you.
1. Constantly having to correct people on your ethnicity.
At this point just ask me, don’t even try guessing anymore.
2. Everyone assuming you’re mixed.
Believe it or not, people of the same ethnicity don’t always look identical.
3. People that refuse to believe you when you tell them your ethnicity.
Riiiiight. I forgot that you know my family background better than I do?
4. Having to “prove” to other people that you’re not lying.
No. I will not talk Spanish just to prove that I’m Mexican
5. People stereotyping you incorrectly.
I don’t even know what I should be offended by most...
6. “There’s nothing wrong with being *insert incorrect ethnicity here*"
I agree. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. DOESN’T MEAN THAT’S WHAT I AM!
7. Constantly hearing jokes about you being adopted.
Do I have to start carrying around my birth certificate or????
8. Being picked on by other people of your ethnicity.
Yes. Thank you. I know I’m “too white”, trust me, you are not the first to point it out.
9. Being jealous of people that actually look “right.”
Trust me, I don’t like confusing you any more than you do. But I also can’t really change how I look so...
10. Not feeling like you “fit in” anywhere.
Why do I feel so out of place when I am around people like me???
