Back Home Baller /bak hōm 'bôler/ n. the term originally coined by NBC's "Saturday Night Live" referring to a young adult who is so very welcomed home by their family after an extended leave of absence that the individual can say that they are being "spoiled." Being a Back Home Baller is not simply an incidental label. It is a skill that takes time for any college student to master. However, with these ten simple steps and strong dedication, anyone can become a true Back Home Baller this holiday season.
1. Pack excessively.
Not because it may be cold. Not because you will be out of school for a while. But because you are going to need to do (or have your family do) as much free laundry as possible before you return after the break.
2. Walk with confidence.
Your family must be reminded of the cool, sophisticated adult that you have become.
3. Be prepared to tell everyone all of the cool things that you are doing in college.
They need to know that all of that tuition money is being put to good use.
4. Dress to impress.
You know there will be family pictures.
5. Claim your spot on the couch.
No matter if it is opening presents, sitting and chatting with family, or just watching TV, many activities will require this established domain.
6. Eat some free food.
If your family offers you some food, take it. They will think of it as a sign to offer you more. They don't want their baby to starve. As if we don't get enough pizza, fried chicken, and cookies in college.
7. Eat some more.
Don't worry about how much. That's what New Year's resolutions are for.
8. Sleep.
A lot. There's just something about your bed that is so much more inviting than those full-size Tempur-Pedic mattresses in your dorm. Besides, you never know if you will get any time to sleep next semester.
9. Go out in public...at least once.
Not only will this remind all of your neighbors and extended family that you are, in fact, still alive, but the numerous greetings of warmth and adoration will leave you with a high self-esteem and feeling like a star.
10. Revel in the little things that you call home.
