1. Basics.
Black/white/grey/brown t-shirts, tank tops, pants, shoes, whatever always come in handy. They complement patterns and go with anything. Investing in some good quality basics is a good idea because you'll be wearing them more than you think!
2. Comfortable pair of tennis shoes.
Even if you aren't commonly found at the gym, we all need a pair of tennis shoes. Invest in a good pair that won't fall apart after a few times of you wearing them and you won't have to buy a new pair for a while!
3. A good pair of jeans.
I'm talking a classic, comfortable, forgot-to-change-out-of-them-when-I-got-home pair of jeans. Find the style that flatters your body type and buy different washes of them. When you find the perfect pair, stock up on them and buy them in every color.
4. Sandals.
I'm personally not a fan of flip-flops (they make too much noise for me), but I love my Chacos and I wear them almost every day and probably 80 percent of the year. Plus, you almost have to have a pair of sandals for summertime, it's too hot to wear closed-toe shoes. Birkenstocks are super in right now (you can find cute and cheap knockoffs anywhere) and they're so comfortable!
5. Little black dress.
A LBD goes with everything and looks so classy! You can dress it up or dress it down depending on the accessories you wear with it. Also, black looks good on everyone and you'll most likely need a black dress for something!
6. Comfortable heels.
I'm always on the hunt for a comfortable pair of heels because I wear them to death. I love wedges because I can walk like normal in them, and I definitely recommend getting a pair in black, brown, and nude because you'll get so much wear out of them!
7. Tote bag.
Perfect for flying, a weekend trip, taking to class, going to the gym, etc. A tote is such a multipurpose bag and comes in handy more often than you think.
8. Rain boots and rain jacket.
Get them and you will never regret it. I've never thought, 'Wow, that rain jacket was a waste of money!' But I have definitely thought, 'Dang it, I definitely should have gotten those rain boots. I guess I need to order them now.'
9. A "goes with everything" bag.
There's nothing worse than a bag you paid a lot of money for (or maybe just $20) that just sits in your closet collecting dust. A neutral-colored bag will go with any outfit, so spending a little extra on it won't make you feel as guilty! If you're wearing it all the time, it makes sense to invest in something that will last a long time.
10. Nike shorts/workout gear.
I basically live in my Nike shorts and I've never regretted buying them. They last such a long time and go with everything. Plus you can wear them to class, to get coffee with someone, to go work out, or just to hang out at home.
