Every summer has a song. That song defines the summer. You hear it all over the radio, at parties, and at the beach. Last summer brought us "Can't Feel My Face." Other past songs of summer are "Call Me Maybe," "Fancy," and unfortunately "Blurred Lines." Many people spend a lot of time trying to figure out what each summer's song will be, I am one of those people. While looking into the songs for this summer I realized that there are a lot of contenders. I've compiled a perfect playlist of songs that you will hear all over the place this summer. They are, in my opinion, the perfect picks for songs of summer.
1. "Can't Stop The Feeling!" by Justin Timberlake
This is the perfect summer song. It is super catchy and fun. This is the type of song that will appeal to a broad audience. Everyone from 10-year-olds to 50-year-olds will love this song. I suspect that you will hear this at every single cookout you have this summer. It is a strong contender to be the "official" song of summer 2016.
2. "Write On Me" by Fifth Harmony
"Write On Me" is a much different song than "Can't Stop The Feeling." Which is exactly why I put it right under it on the list. This song is more of a power ballad, but a beat does get added in later on. Many summer songs of the past few years have not been only uptempo dance songs, there is a market for a nice love song. Fifth Harmony is one of the biggest up and coming acts in pop music. They have two huge hits to their name so far, and this song will probably be their third.
3. "One Dance" by Drake ft. Wizkid, Kyla
Drake has become a human meme. However, this song is great. It is the perfect summer song. It is very catchy and has a great beat.
4. "Don't Let Me Down" by The Chainsmokers ft. Daya
This song is already a huge hit, but it does not show any signs of slowing down. I have a feeling this will be all over the place until at least late July. Daya is going to
be a huge breakout star this summer, her voice is amazing.
5. "Sit Still, Look Pretty" Daya
As I previously said, Daya is going to be huge this summer. Between "Don't Let Me Down" and this song, she is going to have two huge summer hits. This song is incredibly catchy, has a great beat, and has a good message.
6. "Into You" by Ariana Grande
This might be the best song Ariana Grande has ever released. It is so good. I can't even describe how much I love it, so just listen to it.
7. "Kill Em With Kindness" by Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez had a huge hit last summer with "Good For You" and she has been putting out hits consistently since then. This song is no exception. I expect it to be another huge hit for her and for it be all over the radio this summer. The beat and
lyrics are insanely catchy.
8. "Close" by Nick Jonas & Tove Lo
Nick Jonas and Tove Lo are two acts that have a couple of hits to their name. They sound really good together on this song, and it reminds me a bit of Nick's hit "Chains." I think this will be a sleeper hit this summer.
9. "Kiss It Better" by Rihanna
This is the best song on Rihanna's newest album, "Anti." It has already gained some steam and I've heard it on the radio a few times. I predict that by 4th of July weekend, this song will be as popular as the first single from this album, "Work," was.
10. "Rock Bottom" by Hailee Steinfeld ft. DNCE
Hailee Steinfeld and DNCE are both new acts, but they both have one huge hit to their names. Steinfeld had a hit last summer with "Love Yourself" and DNCE had a huge hit with "Cake By The Ocean" earlier this year. They are recognizable faces as well. Steinfeld is an Academy-Award nominee who recently starred in "Pitch Perfect 2" and DNCE's front man is Joe Jonas. Their star power, and this catchy song, will turn this into a huge summer hit.
It will be very interesting to see which of these songs are actually huge hits this summer. I, for one, cannot wait to see which one becomes the official song of summer.
