10 Song to Listen to When You Want to Disappear

My favorite thing to do is drive. Just drive. There's something about the freedom of a long road and all the time of the world that makes me feel completely alive. It gives me butterflies that I can't find in doing anything else.

However, almost as importantly as actually driving is finding the correct songs to play whilst driving. These songs are my favorite because they add to the "going and never coming back" vibe of long car rides. In fact, I've made a playlist with that very name on Spotify just for driving. Here are a few songs from my list.

1. The Night We Met- Lord Huron

This is probably one of my most favorite songs ever. My favorite part of the song is the first two lines: "I am not the only traveller/ who has not repaid his debt". This song is perfect for aimless drives because the narrator talks about being lost without his love. Every word in this song is a masterpiece, well though-out, and utterly mesmerizing.

2. Once Upon Another Time- Sarah Bareilles

In this song, Sarah Bareilles literally talks about the time in her life when she was able to just drive and be free. Half the song is acapella which gives it an equally haunting and gentle vibe. This song will really give you butterflies in your stomach. Plus, Sarah Bareilles voice is just unfair. She is so beautiful.

3. Disappear- Parker Millsap

Y'all know that Parker Millsap is my favorite. This song is the cutest, couple-goals song in the world. Essentially, it's Parker trying to convince his love to run away and disappear with him. Maybe I'm weird, but I would literally drop everything and do that (especially if it was Parker who was asking me to go with him).

4. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall- Bob Dylan

No drive is complete without some Bob. I love this song because we all know Blowing in the Wind and Rolling Stone, but while this song is sometimes forgotten about, it's equally as beautiful. Bob Dylan is one of my favorite singers because his lyrics are genius, I mean he literally won a Nobel Prize for Literature, how could they not be?

5. After The Storm- Mumford & Sons

And of course you'll need some Mumford & Sons. This song is perfect for long drives, it starts off slow, then slowly progresses into a soulful ode to love. It has an amazing chorus that, in my opinion, perfectly sums up what love should be. It's a bit sad, but it makes you think.

6. Wiser- Old Man Canyon

This song is a little more upbeat, but still has a good message to it. It will make you want to drive and never come back, I promise. And it will make you want to go 80 mph the whole way (I would be a hypocrite if I told you that I don't do that. Don't tell my dad).

7. Golden Dandelions- Barns Courtney

I found this song about two days ago and I'm obsessed. It's upbeat, but sweet. "And she said, lay me down in golden dandelions... follow me into the dark." Honestly, it's one of those songs that just makes me smile like a goof with no words to say. It's also #couplegoals.

8. Tiny Glowing Screens Part 2- Watsky

Okay, you have to be in a good headspace for this song. This one kind of deviates from the singer-songwriter/folk theme the rest of these songs fit, it's rap. Every time I hear this song, I get a little teary-eyed. I listen to it to prepare myself to write poetry. Watsky talks about existence in a way that I think most people fear, but he does it with grace. You just have to listen to it, and keep an ear out for the voice crack in the end.

9. Ain't No Rest for the Wicked- Cage The Elephant

This song is a little more upbeat than the Watsky one, and I'm sure you've heard it on the radio a thousand times before. No matter how many times I listen to it, however, it never seems to get old. It kind of makes you want to go rob a bank, but like... in a good way. It gives your belly moths rather than butterflies.

10. Kitchen Door- Wolf Larsen

I was recommended this song sometime last year, and it hasn't grown old since. What makes it unique is that it starts with a poem, not the actual lyrics to the song. The poem talks about a guy who hops in an empty boxcar and runs away, which is perfect for a long car ride vibe. The lyrics to the actual song are beautiful as well. You have to be sure you listen close to what it being said. It's a metaphor.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
