The beginning of freshman year of college is filled with so many emotions.
Excitement for being in a new place, sadness for leaving old friends and family, and the nervousness of not knowing what you are going to do for these next four years. Throughout the school year, all freshmen tend to get into some weird habits that are not normal in any other setting.
1. Never wanting to eat alone
This one is so strange. I would eat snacks in my room for dinner if I could not find someone to go eat with me. There's no reason why eating alone is weird, we just assume we look like loners when in reality, no one is paying attention to the one person sitting at a table by themselves.
2. Not doing laundry until the last possible second
Okay this one makes sense because laundry is expensive and too much work. But what are you gonna do if you run out of socks? Or underwear? Buy new ones? Or force yourself to go to the gross basement?
3. During first semester you miss your friends more than your parents
Making friends can be hard at school and you just want to go back into your old social bubble.
4. But then, during second semester you miss your parents more
Once you find a great group of friends at school, you realize that you miss your family. It personally surprised me how much I missed my parents and wanted them to come visit, I thought I was independent but I guess I was mistaken.
5. Pulling all nighters to study
Studying until 11 or 12 might seem like no big deal. But some people spend their entire nights at the library and then take an 8 am exam the next morning without getting any sleep.
6. Having a daily nap schedule
This is probably what those late night studiers end up doing. You schedule everything around sleeping and napping and make sure that there is enough time to take that 30 minute or one hour long nap. It becomes part of your daily routine.
7. Drinking coffee at all times of the day
7 am coffee? Makes sense. 12 pm? Midday coffee break after class. 4 pm? Sure I’ll get some studying done at Starbucks. 9 pm? Why not. As if you're gonna go straight to sleep at 9 anyways!
8. Cancelling dinner plans for hot cookie night
This one mostly applies to Marquette students but you will soon realize the joy of hot cookie night and you will not let anything stop you from getting that amazing bowl of gooey deliciousness.
9. Going to all events that offer free t-shirts
I attended so many events and fundraisers solely because there were free shirts involved. Do not be ashamed if you are one of these people too. We all just want free stuff.
10. Same applies for free food
This one is especially true for all college students. If there is good free food involved why not go? It's a nice break from having dining hall food constantly.
