Growing up in a place with a population smaller than one block in Manhattan can really have its advantages. It's peaceful, full of nature, and you grow close to a lot of people. In a lot of ways, it's great. But let's be real, that doesn't mean it doesn't have its downsides. Here are 10 truths all small town kids know and have lived and are so over.
1. Your dating pool is minuscule because everyone is your cousin.
Is 16 too young to sign up for eHarmony?
2. Most of your groceries are bought at the local general store and farms.
Which means your house is stocked with veggies and junk food doesn't exist.
3. Getting stuck behind a tractor on the road infuriates you and yet never surprises you.
At least none of your teachers bat an eye when you tell them why you're late.
4. Saturday nights consist of hanging out in somebody's basement.
It's fun, but sometimes we want a little variety.
5. Everything is at least a half hour drive.
Driving over an hour to get somewhere really doesn't even seem that far.
6. A small school means your best friends are in all your classes, but so are your enemies.
Ah, the double-edged sword.
7. Your parents know everything about your life because your teacher, principal, and coach are all their best friends.
They know who you're dating before you do. It's kind of creepy.
8. Your choices of activities include sports, drama...and that's about it.
Where are the underwater basket-weaving classes?
9. You have to work tons of hours to pay for the car you need because everything is so far away.
Your paycheck goes right to the gas tank.
10. When you finally graduate and start your life, you have to say goodbye to people you've known since you were born.
Curse you, feelings. Why you gotta be like that?
And there you have it, all the things you know too well if you grew up in a small town.
