10 Simple And Thoughtful Things That Can Brighten Anyone's Day

These 10 acts can change someone's day so why not try some? Most take less than 8 seconds to complete and can make a major impact.

Giving someone a genuine compliment

Being told you look good today, or that somebody really likes your shirt can make somebody smile one more time that day. I can guarantee receiving a GENUINE compliment from somebody will make them walk a little taller throughout the day and maybe they'll pass it on to somebody else.

Leaving a note

This may just be a personal thing, but I love notes. It is a happy surprise that takes the minimum amount of effort, but they can have some of the biggest impacts. You can keep them and they can be put anywhere!

Smile at them

Not a "we just made eye contact while walking past each other so now I feel obligated to smile at you" smile, but a genuine smile because they will smile back! And if they don't... try again next time!

If you are getting something for yourself, grab one more to brighten a friend's day.

For example, the other day I went to Sonic to get a strawberry limeade. While I was there, I grabbed another one to bring home to my roommate when she got done with her longest day of school. She got so excited and it just shows you are thinking of them.

Let them know you are thinking about them

If you have friends that go to school far away, and maybe you have drifted apart a little, shooting them a text that you are thinking about them and hope they are doing well can make a world of difference. It also gives you guys an opportunity to catch up.

Say "bless you" when somebody sneezes

This may also be a personal thing, but I hate it when somebody sneezes and nobody says bless you. I don't really know the history of saying bless you when somebody sneezes but it's a polite thing to do while acknowledging others.

Offer a seat at your table to somebody

When I'm sitting in the student union when it is packed and somebody is looking for a place to sit, offer them a seat at your table. Nobody needs a whole table to themselves, and it can be a great way to spark up a conversation and make a new friend.

Buy the person's food behind you

This is a classic way to brighten somebody's day, and classics never die. When I pull up and the cashier says that they paid for my food, it makes me extremely happy and makes others want to do it as well. The happiness just spreads from there.

Send somebody cute clothing piecesĀ

Everybody likes to know they have a style and can pull things off. When you are shopping in person or online shopping and you see something that reminds you of someone/ you think it would look good on them.. send it to them! It's a small gesture that is fun and maybe they'll end up buying it.

Send them a song that makes you think of them

When you hear a song and you are like "man, that really reminds me of that person" send it to them! Music is a great way to connect with others! Unless you are listening to... ya know.. not encouraging songs...in that case.. just keep it to yourself.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
