10 Signs You Might Be A Hermit

Just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not there

Going out is a lot of fun, but sometimes it’s just so demanding. There’s a whole process of showering and actually getting ready, and sometimes that’s just too much to ask for. After a long day of classes, sometimes you just want to sit on your couch and be a hermit. Described below is the average life of a college hermit.

1. You hear “I haven’t seen you out in forever” more than you hear your own name.

Yes, I get it, I don’t go out often. I’ve been busy- maybe with grades, maybe with American Horror Story; you’ll never know. You don’t need to announce to everyone I’m a hermit, rather just be excited that I actually got out of bed this morning and came out.

2. There might be days you never see the outside... and that’s ok.

When you’re sick, there is literally nothing separating you and your room. You take “lazy day” to the next level. People might have thought you went home for the weekend, but nope, you just haven’t moved in a few days.

3. You are definitely a regular at at least one library

There’s usually something causing you to be a hermit, and in many cases it’s grades. You definitely have a favorite library, maybe even a favorite spot in that library. Many late night memories have been created there, maybe even as many as have been created at your favorite bar. It’s the same thing, right?

4. You actively watch at least 3 TV shows.

Grey’s Anatomy? You’ve watched it since the beginning. How to Get Away with Murder? Every Thursday you religiously watch that. Netflix has only furthered your obsession, which leads to many days you choosing to not go out solely because you want to watch your shows.

5. You experience FOMO at least once a week.

Just because you’re not out does not mean that you don’t see the Snapchats and the Insta’s and it lowkey gives you FOMO. While you sit at the library or on your couch, you see what you could have been doing had you gone out. Even so, it still looks like way too much effort for your taste.

6. You’re comfortable with being alone sometimes

Being alone is not always a bad thing. It’s definitely the best way to finish homework or binge watch an entire season of How I Met Your Mother. You like being around your friends and all, but sometimes, nothing sounds better than just sitting on your futon alone and finishing FRIENDS.

7. Wine most nights sounds better than shots

What about a relaxing night with a bottle of wine doesn’t sound good? You’ve got the alcohol you would otherwise be going out for from the convenience of your couch. And you can accomplish so much while also being slightly buzzed. Sounds like a win-win.

8. Despite staying in, you’re still up until 1am most days

Just because you aren’t raging until 1 does not mean that you’re not up until then. Whether you’re just d*cking around or actually working on something until then varies with the day but regardless, you’re up late no matter what. But hey, at least you know that if you just want to talk to someone, there are still tons of people still up.

9. Only people who are in your classes will see you some days

If you don’t have to interact with certain people, you won’t. This has probably come in handy when avoiding your enemies when you actually do decide to go out. Some days, you just want to accomplish things, and if certain people can’t help you with that, you won’t see them.

10. When you do go out, you still know how to go hard

Just because you don’t go out often does not mean you don’t know how to have fun. Going out usually entails a lot of “oh my god I can’t believe you’re actually out” and a hangover the next morning. Honestly, at times it seems as though because you go out less, the times you do are more memorable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
