Everyone knows the quirks of their hometown that no one else could know. We all do things on a regular basis back home that we don’t even realize we consistently do. My hometown of Winter Haven, Florida is right in between the tourist destinations of Tampa and Orlando. You know it’s a pretty small town because you can’t even seem to go to the grocery store without seeing at least three people you know. Here’s a list of all of the other reasons you know you’re from Winter Haven, Florida.

1. You always went to Cypress Gardens as a child.

Who could forget seeing that amazing ski show all the time?

2. Legoland has never been your favorite place to go.

Especially for you teenagers that work there.

3. You were excited just to know we were getting a Chipotle.

Who knew a small town would get so giddy over expensive Mexican food?

4. Your family knows EVERYONE.

There's no getting away with anything, so you might as well just run.

5. It pretty much takes you 10 minutes to get across town.

If you're in a hurry, don't worry. You'll get from Cypresswood to Downtown in no time.

6. You have to travel at least 30 minutes to go do something fun.

The only thing fun in town is eating. Oh yeah, and people watching.

7. You’ll never get a milkshake without comparing it to Andy’s Igloo.

Nothing can beat a Big Daddy shake from the best place in town.

8. You were REALLY excited when we got a Chick-fil-A and a Starbucks.

Who knew how "white girl" our town could get?!

9) You know exactly what the phrase “The Chain” is referring it to.

And if you don't, there's a 100 percent chance you aren't from around here.

10) You know that we were supposed to be called Lakeland and they were supposed to be called Winter Haven.

A little map mix-up story that everybody knows.

Yes, Winter Haven is such a small town, but you know you love it. Let’s just hope we still keep getting some great, new restaurants. All I’m waiting for is the Steak n’ Shake to open when I’m home for Christmas break. You Winter Haven natives know what I mean…

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
