Literature... the wonderful books that have withstood the test of time and now are beloved classics. Maybe I'm biased, but how could you not love literature? I know about these 10 signs because I've seen them in myself and people I know who are also lit nerds. If this is you, embrace your nerdiness! Take pride in your knowledge and appreciation of the finer things in life.
Know that I consider you intelligent and accomplished for taking time to read works that have lasted through the centuries. My favorites are Emma, Persuasion, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee; Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte; Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain; Little Women by Louisa May Alcott... I think I got a little carried away, but you get the idea, so let's get to the ten signs.
You know you are a literature nerd when:
1) You read and appreciate the classics on your free time.
2) People in real life remind you of characters from books.
The authors' painting of human nature is timeless.
3) You focus on the artistry of words and expression while reading, not just the plot.
4) You often find (and even make) allusions to classic works that most people miss out on.
5) You collect quotes from literature to inspire you
and if you're really good (I am not), you can recite those lines from memory.
6) The highlight of your day just might be watching a documentary on Jane Austen in your Novel class.
Is this getting too nerdy for you yet?
7) You describe one author by comparing her to another,
which endlessly confuses those who do not know of either author.
8) After reading for an extended period of time, your thoughts take on the style of prose you were just reading.
Maybe it's the Southern dialect of Huck Finn or the refined English of Jane Austen's characters.
