To all my fellow Irish Dancers, I don’t know about you, but there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about dancing in some way, shape or form. Whether is be a simple thing that reminds of it or I don’t even realize that I am moving my feet until I get funny looks. The 15 years I Irish danced were some of the best of my life. I could never imagine what my life would have been like without it. So here are 10 reasons I know that I was an Irish dancer.
1. Whenever you see a long hallway, you can’t help but want to skip down it and do a leapover.
2. Standing still in a line is nearly impossible without tapping your feet or doing a few trebles.
3. The second you tell people that you can Irish dance you are immediately asked to show them right then and there.
4. At least a third of your friend group is people that you met through dance.
5. “Oh you Riverdance?” is a question you get regularly to which you respond with an eye roll.
7. You still wear your bubble or poodle socks because you have so many. (They are great boot socks.)
8. St. Patrick’s Day will always hold a special day in your heart. Whether it was telling people it is “Paddy” not “Patty" or walking in the St. Paddy's Day Parade every year9. Whenever the movie JIG was on TLC you told all of your friends and family to watch it so they would understand your life.
10. You cherish your Irish dance memories and would not change them for the world.
I was an Irish dancer for 15 year for Rince Na Tiarna based out of Buffalo, New York. I wouldn't be who I am today without Irish dance. I am a firm believer in once an Irish dancer, always an Irish dancer.
