1. You get to spend your time on you.
Your time is precious and there isn't much to waste. Spending your time on you makes it so much nicer because you don't have to worry about whether or not you'll be arriving on time to meet with someone or having to worry about clearing your schedule and making arrangements to fit someone in it. The only time you have is yours, you treasure it any you want to.
2. You can look anyway you want to.
You wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and just say ew. That braid you fell asleep in looks like a twisted tree branch, your mascara has your eyelashes stuck together, and you don't even want to question what crawled into your mouth and died. You know you look like a real hot mess, but who's there to tell you that that hot mess can't be seen in public? So, you go ahead and leave your look the way it is and embrace that style of a good night's sleep or brush that out and wing your liner. You are the only one that can dictate how you look and no one should ever tell you that the way are dressed or appear is never good enough. Because when you're single, you are the only person you really need to impress
3. Your space is yours.
Coming home to your room just the way you left is one of the best feelings ever. Your bed is unmade with the covers all to the left as if you just rolled out of bed. Your pink and lacey Victoria's Secret bra is still laying over the chair when you made that last minute switch that morning. But most importantly, you don't even have to look to pull out that jar of pickles from the fridge because it's in the exact same spot as it always is. You love that your stuff is well your stuff! No sharing with anyone or anything because mi casa is not su casa.
4. You don't have to deal with people you don't want to.
Meeting new people is a great thing; new faces and names are exciting, right? Except when you are forced to like them. His friends are now your friends. You may think he's an awesome guy but his friends on the other hand really suck. You've got one who keeps checking you up and down, one that can't quit asking about you and another who can't quit talking about himself. You would rather be with any other people than them but you are forced to be friendly and fake a smile and join their clique no matter how much you want to just run away. When you're single, you only deal with the people you want to. You make it clear who is worth your time who needs to keep passing by. How awesome is that?!
5. You aren't financially bound to someone else.
You're walking by Aerie and you see that their "'seven for $27.50" sale is back on and you stop in your tracks. There is no doubt you aren't going to spend your next 30 minutes looking through bins upon bins of cheekies, hiphuggers and boy-shorts. You know you don't need seven new pairs of underwear but you really want them. Heck! Who's to say you can't have them? Spend that last penny finding that perfect new shirt to wear to dinner with your bestie next week or that brand new color corrector concealer from Sephora? You earned it and you have every right to spend it on what you want.
6. You can mingle all you want to.
You aren't tied to someone else, so go ahead and strike up a conversation with that cute kid from your biology class or with that guy who keeps smiling at you from across the library. You can talk to whomever you want to without any consequences. Keeping your options open and simple is the easiest way to get to know him, so let your guard down a little and let your eyelashes flutter at him and make a move. You've got nothing to lose.
7. Get with your girls every chance you get.
When you have a built-in companion (aka your significant other) you lose your time with everyone you used to spend all your time with. You'll never worry about not seeing enough of them! Silence and solitude force you to be social with your friends and make plans. Take that road trip with them like you've always wanted to, you aren't leaving anyone behind.
8. That Netflix queue is set up your way and that is the only way.
You don't need anyone to judge you for your recently watched list on Netflix. Who can judge you for being four seasons deep in "Parenthood", completely finished with "Family Guy", and still struggling to stay awake during the seventh episode of "Making A Murderer". Your choice in binge-ing is constantly changing and you don't need to worry about if someone has skipped the episode you've been trying to watch for two days now or if a new series has been started before finishing another one.
9. Your concerts are a one female show.
You've got the shades on, sunroof open, and Miley Cyrus blasting on the way to Walmart. "Wrecking Ball" has never been performed with such passion and hand movements. You can sing your heart out to every Beyoncé hit you know and throw down to some Drake too. You own the stage and don't need any backup vocals to get in the way.
10. You can be fabulously selfish.
When you're in a committed relationship, you are constantly making decisions based on the person you are seeing. Doesn't matter if it's where to go to dinner, which air freshener to use, or who gets the last chocolate chip cookie. You are always having to take someone else's opinion into account. Being a single soul lets you make every decision for yourself. All of them. No need to worry about making anyone happy or making sure your choice is appropriate.
