10 Reasons Why Wildwood is my Second Home

My family had a shore house on 7th street in North Wildwood and we were always there every summer since I was born. My great grandfather built it, and it sits a block away from the beach and not too far from the boardwalk. Recently our house sold and I couldn't miss it more. Here's a list of why Wildwood is my second home and what I love about it.

1. The Beach.

Wildwood's beach is amazing in my opinion. The sand isn't rocky like some beaches, it stretches for miles down the coast. Despite the trash due to immature, disrespectful people, the beach is maintained and kept well by the town. Just laying down on the sand and hearing the seagulls could put me to sleep and my mind at peace. The ocean is always beautiful to me considering it's not the Caribbean, it has it's own beauty and I spend hours in it.

2. Fudgy Wudgy Man

This is the guy yelling, "Fudgy Wudgy here, Choco tacos fudgy wudgy here." Once you heard this as a kid, you would sprint up to your parents and beg for a few bucks. Nothing better than Ice Cream on the beach!

3. The Boardwalk

By far the best boardwalk in New Jersey. Nothing can compare to Wildwood's boardwalk. It stretches 2 miles long of nothing but good food, stores to buy poorly made but funny T-shirts, games to win prizes and amusement rides. The best spot to get your workout done in the morning by running or even a bike ride. As a teenager this is the spot to meet new people. Whether you're riding all of the many amazing rides, playing in the arcade, or even just people watching, the boardwalk never gets old.

4. The Tram Car

"Watch the Tram Car please!" The most annoying yet iconic thing you'll hear on the boardwalk. An expensive ride, however sometimes it is worth it if your legs are killing you and you're miles away from your place. Look out for kids trying to high five you while they are riding on it.

5. The Ferris Wheel

Now I'm not big on heights, in fact I hate them. However, this is the biggest, most eye catching thing in Wildwood. You can spot this thing all the way from the bridge and in fact that's the first thing everyone looks for when coming over the bridge. This enormous wheel will give you a breathtaking view of Wildwood.

6. Boardwalk Pizza

Now whether you support Sam's or Macks pizza, there is no argument on that they both make some of the best pies you'll ever eat. This debate on who has better pizza has been going on for years, but I can promise you both places make the best pizza you've ever had.

7. Fireworks

Every Friday at roughly 10 pm during the summer, Wildwood puts on a Firework show. This show is beautiful and lights up the night time sky over the boardwalk. This is definitely the night you want to bring your girlfriend to and take her on the beach. The 4th of July show is always amazing and every year my family posts up on the beach to watch the show.

8. Fudge.

No matter where you prefer your fudge, salt water taffy, or sweets from, the boardwalk has some of the best. We all love to grab a piece of free fudge samples from the people standing out front of the shops, praying that we get two pieces stuck together. Definitely a must thing to go while down the shore.

9. Gateway 26.

Gateway 26 is definitely my favorite arcade on the boards because of how big it is and what's inside. They have everything from crane games, Skee ball, and all the flashy games that give you tickets. The prizes are endless here, you could cash out for things like toys or even a microwave.

10. Day Trips.

Nothing better than figuring a day you and a couple of your friends have off and taking a drive down to Wildwood. Driving down early in the morning, spending all day on the beach and a few hours on the boardwalk is the perfect day. Coming home with salty beach hair, tan skin, and sand still in your ears is easily my favorite feeling in the world.

The memories this place has provided a lot of people easily shows why it could be the best place to go to. Now it isn't Bermuda, or Hawaii but to people like me, it's close enough to my house to make often trips to. The beach is my favorite place to go to and Wildwood is where I grew up. Wildwood like many other people is my second home and the place where I can relieve all my stress.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
