This spring break of 2016, I had the amazing chance to go abroad with a group of students and two professors to study in Greece. We traveled the country by boat and bus to look at the amazing sites, towns and experience both ancient and modern Greece. From weeks before to now sometime after, it all still feels so surreal. I went to Europe for the first time with some great friends and was surrounded by my passions, beautiful scenery, and the history of everything.
Though the trip had its ups and downs, like almost missing my plane from Paris to Athens because we only had a one-hour layover between flights, to climbing a mountain and taking in the sight of the country surrounding us, I wouldn't change a thing. If offered the chance you should snag it up, and travel to anywhere and everywhere. Here are 10 reasons why.
1. You'll learn culture firsthand.
We hear and sometimes read about cultural differences, but there's no better way to learn and understand by seeing them yourself wherever you go.
2. FOOD.
I know you love food, and the authentic food from other countries will not only give you many perfect Instagram pictures, but they will bless your taste buds with the best food you've ever had.
3. The company.
When studying abroad, you'll meet the most amazing people, make friends with them, and you'll stay in touch forever. If you have the opportunity to already have friends by your side, then it's an incredible experience you can share together.
4. Life lessons.
When abroad in a different country, you'll not only learn many things about the place you're visiting, but many things about yourself, as well. Like what food you don't like or even what you want to do with the rest of your life, and what makes you happy.
5. Flawless pictures.
From the breathtaking sights to you looking amazing in front of a famous monument of some sort, you'll become a talented photographer and model during your trip. And who doesn't love having great photos for social media and for memories?
6. All the stories.
You will have experienced so much and have the most amazing adventures, and you'll now have stories you'll pass on to not only your friends, but maybe even your grandkids someday.
7. Bragging rights.
You won't just have awesome stories, you'll also totally have the right to brag about spending your school break or entire semester learning and experiencing life in a different country.
8. You'll appreciate home a little more.
Though wherever you go may be amazing and you'll never want to leave, you'll miss your family, friends, and some aspects of life at home. You'll have a newfound appreciation for things you hadn't realized meant so much to you. It's the little things, you know?
9. Souvenirs.
Who doesn't love an adorable little trinket, merchandise, or something special or handmade? Plus, your friends and family won't be able to say you never got them anything cool!
10. it's just worth it.
Through the homesickness, the scary moments, the wonderful adventures, and the forever-lasting memories, it really will be a journey like no other. I'm not just recommending: I'm telling you, if you get the chance to go abroad, seize the moment, because you won't regret it. You'll cherish it.
