10 Reasons Why Taylor Swift Should Inspire Every College Girl

1. She's a successful, scratch that, extremely successful woman.

At the young age of 14, Taylor signed a contract with Big Machine Records, and she released her self-titled debut album in 2006. Over the past eight years, Taylor has released five albums, including her latest smash hit, 1989. Taylor has also dabbled in the acting industry, making appearances in blockbusters like Valentine's Day, The Lorax, and The Giver, and she has been recognized for her efforts and success as a philanthropist. With a net worth of $220 million, this 24 year old has already made her mark, and she's just getting started.

2. Not only is she successful, but Taylor is the true definition of an independent woman.

Yes, this music sensation is known for her tearfully honest, self-written songs about her many personal heartbreaks, but who says that doesn't make her independent? Taylor makes at least a few million from every breakup she endures, and, with that net worth previously mentioned, she can do whatever she pleases, whether that be writing more immensely successful albums, venturing off on new entrepreneurial adventures, or even retiring. Taylor has full control of her life, and that's something to be admired in a young woman the same age as many of us college ladies.

3. She recognizes her own voice. T-Swift is one of the most powerful women/people in the music industry today.

Did you hear about that time Taylor removed all of her music from the popular music-streaming app, Spotify? A move like that would hurt most artists financially and upset their fans, but Taylor did it for her brand and future success. She took a stand against being paid mere cents for people listening to her work on Spotify rather than buying it in the store, and her fans have stood by her, buying over 1.3 million copies of 1989 in is debut week. It won't be long before other artists start following in her footsteps. Taylor has a powerful voice, and people listen to her.

4. Weird? Awkward? Funny? Strange? That's Taylor.
In a world where being awkward and strange is usually frowned upon, Taylor makes a statement everyday by being herself. She's refreshingly authentic and hilariously funny. She doesn't care if others think she's weird. Taylor does Taylor, and her fans, the music industry, and the world have embraced her. She's showing girls and women everywhere that it's okay to relax and be yourself. People will love you for who you are, and you don't have to be like everyone else to be accepted.

5. "Shake It Off" is her real life motto.
Every one of us is guilty of gossiping or judging someone at one point or another, and I'd be willing to bet you've heard a few Taylor Swift, pro-serial dater, jokes. One of Taylor's best qualities is that she has the ability to embrace the jokes and criticism about her love life. Instead of letting all of the memes and jokes get to her, Taylor has turned any negative energy about her into a couple more million dollar songs in Shake It Off and Blank Space (News Flash: If you haven't seen the video for Blank Space, you're missing out).

6. She's not afraid to take risks.

If you want to be successful in this world, you're going to have to take a few risks at one point or another. Taylor has taken her fair share of risks including making a transition from country star to pop sensation and, recently, taking her music off of Spotify, just to name a couple.

7. She's sexy but modest.

For a star who is in the public's eye 24/7, Taylor is never caught dead in extremely revealing clothing. She doesn't wear booty (like actual booty-showing) shorts or sheer, revealing tops, and she would never pull a Britney and make the cover of People wearing no underwear. Taylor reminds me of the beautiful women from the 50's and 60's who were modestly sexy, like Jacqueline Kennedy (funny that she dated her great nephew!). Taylor is a true class act.

8. She's Humble.
Taylor knows she's successful, just like everyone else in the world knows it too, but you never hear her bragging about her success and wealth. Taylor is a down-to-earth, humble human being. This helps her relate to her fans and makes her personable. People want to be around her, be her friend, and do business with her. Confidence is important, but there is a fine line between confidence and cockiness. You have to find a middle ground, and Taylor has found that perfect place in between. She's confident and humble, a winning combination.

9. She's a leader, she sets trends, she's the definition of a role model.
Taylor makes a point of censoring her music and actions for her audience. She knows that young girls are watching, and she has made sure not to taint her image like other celebrities her age (cough cough Miley). Little girls, teenagers, college girls, and grown women alike look up to her, and they should. Taylor calls the shots on her life and career. She's a leader, and we need more girls and women to follow in her footsteps, especially us young women in college. We don't spend at least four years of our lives pouring our money and time into studying so that we can work a mediocre desk job. We need more leaders, trendsetters, and role models in this world.

10. She's doing what she loves, and, most importantly, she's happy.

Our society, today, is obsessed with making money and having the best material items. Those things are great to have, but, when we're left with nothing or at the end of our life, we won't look back on our time spent on Earth and think about all of the money we had or the killer iPhone 6 we owned as a teen. Taylor is doing what she's passionate about, and she's happy. College girls, anyone really, could learn these lessons from Taylor Swift, but this one really hits home for me. At the end of our journey on this planet, I want to look back on my life and know I pursued my passions, however crazy they may have been. Ultimately, a happy, loving 70-100 years on this planet is the goal of life for you, me, and everyone else, and Taylor seems to be on track to reaching that goal. We could all learn from her.

In short.....

WE LOVE YOU TAYLOR

THANK YOU FOR BEING PERFECTLY IMPERFECT AND EVERYTHING THAT WE SHOULD STRIVE TO BE. YOU KEEP DOING THE MOSTEST.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
