Maine is arguably one of the most beautiful states in the U.S., especially on the coast. Less than 5 hours from central Connecticut, the tiny town of Boothbay Harbor sits peacefully on the coast. Boothbay attracts tourists for more reasons than one, and I hope sharing some of them with you will convince you to pass through, too!

1. Views

Because Boothbay is located directly on the coast of Maine, the views from ashore (or on the water!) are incredible. There is nothing better than a Maine summertime sunset.

2. Taffy

You may have tried taffy from other places, but I kid you not, the taffy from Boothbay's Downeast Candies shop is out of this world. It's easily the best saltwater taffy I've tasted.

3. Boat tours

On the boardwalk in the harbor, you will find offers to go on whale watches, seal watches, puffin watches, harbor cruises, and boat rides to Monhegan Island. The only one I have yet to go on is a puffin watch, so trust me when I say that any one of the options is worth it. If you end up going on a boat tour, be sure to bring a sweatshirt, as it is always chilly on the boat!

4. Lighthouses

One of the more famous ones to visit around Boothbay is Pemaquid Lighthouse, which is located in Bristol, ME. The brief ride there is breathtaking, as are the views. There's just nothing like it!

5. Restaurants

The harbor houses multiple restaurants that have amazing food choices, whether you're a lobstah lover or not!

6. Popcorn

In addition to the taffy store, there is a store that sells flavored popcorn. Whether you're looking for the traditional cheesy popcorn flavor or a new, distinct flavor like blueberries and cream, you are sure to find a bag that suits your taste buds!

7. Jewelry

One of the best parts about walking around the harbor is that there are tons of cute little shops. At a place called Silver Lining, earrings that contain butterfly wings are sold. They make great gifts for your friends or family back home!

8. Wildlife

This summer my family and I went on a boat tour to Monhegan Island for the first time, and even though our only mission was to travel there and back, we ended up seeing seals, a whale, a sunfish, and several porpoises. Needless to say, Boothbay is the perfect place to spot wildlife!

9. Water activities

Also in the harbor is the opportunity to rent kayaks and paddle boards. If you're looking for a different perspective of the beauty of the harbor, this is just what you should do!

10. Serenity

If you're in need of a true vacation, one in which you can actually relax, Boothbay is the place for you. Spending a day catching up on sleep, enjoying the atmosphere, and eating yummy food is exactly what Boothbay is about. There is no one in the world who wouldn't enjoy visiting!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
