1. The experiences are unforgettable
Traveling around the world allows you to see how other people live their lives. You can’t just read about life, you have to go out and experience it for yourself. Not to mention, all of the crazy amazing things you do while you're there!
2. You can travel with your friends
There’s nothing better than experiencing a new place with someone you’re close to. A lot of college programs let you travel with your best buds, adding to your list of awesome things you did together.
3. You can get college credit
You know the feeling you get when you did something incredible? Imagine traveling the world and getting credit for it! Not only will taking a class or two lighten your course load during the school year, but you can take classes that wouldn’t normally be offered. And your school might even have classes that go abroad during breaks, so you don’t have to do the planning all on your own and there's usually minimal work!
4. It’s cheap!
There are a ton of scholarship opportunities out there for students who want to travel and study abroad. It takes some digging, but it’s definitely worth not paying for the whole trip yourself. Outside of scholarships, most companies offer group travel rates or discounts for students. And hostels are a great way to save money and meet people your age from around the world.
5. Complete language immersion
Employers are looking to hire people with diverse people and language skills. Nothing says “hire me!” like saying I spent time in (somewhere awesome) and became proficient in (some awesome language).
6. The food
Are there even words to explain the taste of authentic cuisine? No, there are not.
7. The sites are incredible
Beaches, castles, museums. I could go on for days about the different places you can see when you travel. But the only way to fully know what I mean is to see them yourself.
8. The people are awesome
Meeting new people is part of any traveling experience, but when you travel in college, you get to meet people from all over the world who are doing the same thing you are. Hostels and pubs are prime places to meet new friends.
9. Independence rocks
Honestly, there’s nothing like the feeling of freedom you get when you step off of a plane in a brand new country. Having that freedom and the time to really get to know yourself is one of the biggest advantages to traveling. Feeling lost? Hop on a plane and find yourself.
10. Do it while you can
Really, traveling while you're in college, or right after, is the best time. Why? Because you don’t have any major responsibilities. It's that split second when you're free from school but right before you start your career. So get out there and do it! There’s nothing stopping you!
