10 Reasons To Take An Internship In Berlin

Many college students are required to have an internship under their belt before they're allowed to graduate. Why not make your internship work for you? Being a college student is the time where you can travel and not feel bad for it. Here's why you need to take an internship in Berlin Germany for a semester.

1. Berlin is One of the Most Green Capital Cities on Earth

Berlin is known as the greenest capital city on the planet. Not only does Berlin have some of the most beautiful green spaces you will ever see, from Tiergarten to the running trails in Lichtenberg, but Berlin is also known for its recycling to keep the city as beautiful as possible. There will always be a nice place to lay out in the sun with a kebap and some friends for an afternoon and you won't have to look far.

2. Great Public Transportation

You never have to worry about not being able to get somewhere. Berlin has the best public transport in all of Europe. From Trams to the U-Bahn (the subway), there is always an easy way to get wherever you need to go. You never have to worry about how you're getting home after having one too many beers at the Biergarten. Get a monthly transport card for 68 euros and the whole city will always be at your fingertips.

3. The Food is to Die For

Berlin has some of the best food you could ever eat from Tommie's Burger Joint to Mustafas Gemüsedoner Kebap. There is always something new to try while you're there. From a Kebap, which is the best food to eat after a night out, to the food in the train stations, it's a delicious way to grab a quick bite on the go. Berlin is also Vegan friendly with every restaurant giving you vegan options and even vegan only restaurants. Always try a new restaurant while you're there you won't be mad you did.

4. There are Amazing Sites to See

There is an amazing amount of things to see in Berlin that have so much history behind them. The Brandenburg Gate, seen above, is a place in the center of Berlin where you will find people snapping pictures with loved ones, or just hanging out for the day. You can spend a whole weekend wandering the streets of Berlin finding amazing sites from the East Side Gallery to the Memorial of the Murdered Jews of the Holocaust. Berlin is a city filled with an amazing amount of history it is well worth your time to go learn more about it.

5. The Drinks are Better Here

There are no open container laws in Germany and the drinking age is 18. Walk into the corner store and grab a beer, the guy behind the counter will open if for you if you want. You can relax at a Beer Garden with your friends for an afternoon making memories you'll have for a lifetime, or you can go to Tresor a techno club to dance until the sun comes up. Berlin is a laid back city that shares its chill vibes with everyone who stays for a while.

6. You'll Never Run Out of Good Coffee

Every coffee shop in Berlin has been touched by the coffee gods. When you need to stop and get some work done the Cafes usually have free wifi so settle in with a latte and get in the zone. You don't even need to have a flavored latte because their baristas give out the best coffee your three euros could buy. If you're like me you'll cuddle up in a cafe with with a latte and a croissant catching up on your american shows that you miss while you're there.

7. There is Always Somewhere Fun to Explore

There are so many abandoned places that have so much history in Berlin, from abandoned hospitals to an abandoned theme park on the River Spree. Take a day and go exploring you won't be mad you did. Wear comfy shoes you don't mind getting dirty and be prepared to break a sweat.

8. Enjoy the Pop Culture

Visit the hotel where Michael Jackson hung Blanket out the window and take a few selfies while you're there. Visit the place where JFK called himself a jelly donut and see where Hasselhoff danced on the Berlin Wall. There is so much of the world to see so why not start with the fun places. While there is so much history in this amazing city there is also so many crazy things that have happened here that makes Berlin the Center of Pop Culture.

9. The Football Games in the Olympic Stadium

Not American football, we're talking soccer folks. In America we know our love for our football is over the top but you don't know fandom until you attend a soccer game in Berlin. With a wall of plexiglass blocking you from the opposing fans for your safety and the nonstop roar on the crowd. Visiting the Olympic Stadium is an amazing experience, from the game to the thought that you're sitting in the stadium built during Hitler's Regime. Go grab a pint and a pretzel and enjoy the atmosphere.

10. You'll Make the Best Friends While You're There

You'll be living with these people the whole time you're there, you'll be working with these people everyday, but they will become your family. You'll come from all walks of life and from all over the globe. It will hurt more leaving them to go home than it did leaving home to meet them. These people will be there for you no matter the distance and while you're in Berlin they will see some weird sides of you, but they'll choose to stay with you through all of the weird. After you leave they will still always be a phone call away.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
