If you’re lucky enough to live by the coast, then you know that it comes with some benefits. For those not so lucky, let me tell you why you need to move, ASAP.

  1. You can go to the beach anytime you want. This is an obvious one. It’s so important to take advantage of this beautiful creation of nature.
  2. Tanning. Girls, guys, people of all kinds: tanning is a real chore. I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to lay there for an hour trying to get at least a half shade darker, yet there’s something about laying in the warm sand with the chill of the ocean breeze that makes it a little easier. You can listen to music or you can take a nap; getting a tan is essential for that summer glow.
  3. The weather is always a little better. Here’s why this is true: water moderates the temperature; I learned this in my geography class so trust me on this.
  4. Beach boys... everywhere. There’s a type of guy that tends to dominate the beach cities and that is the "surfer dudes." They have blue eyes, tan skin and salty blonde hair. Although they aren’t my type, they sure are pretty to look at.
  5. Bonfires. In the summer, there are bonfires left and right. Why not eat hamburgers and S'mores all day? When you get hot, no worries, just take a dip into the large body of water next to you!
  6. Surfing. Although in my 19 years of living by the coast, I haven’t learned to surf, but it’s still a possibility! Surfing is great when there are not any shark attacks. Also, you can take cool go-pro pictures/videos so it’s worth the Instagram.
  7. Beach waves. The ideal hairstyle for every girl is the beach waves. They make hair products to mimic this very phenomenon. However, when you live by the water, there is no hair product needed! All you need is salt water action and those beach waves are yours. Oh, and guys, we like those waves on you too (refer back to number 3).
  8. You’re happier. It’s been studied that people who live by the water are happier. We need a break from the stress of school or work. The ocean is so relaxing that it seems to wash away all your worries and responsibilities.
  9. Better skin. Fun fact, sand is a natural exfoliant. So if you wanna stay young and have perfect skin, dab a little sea water where it counts.
  10. Romantic walks on the beach. Who said this can’t be a reality? Have dinner by the beach and then you and your soulmate can take a long stroll on the sand where you, hopefully, bond over literature and classic movies. That’s a thing, right?

I hope I've made you inland lovers a little jealous! I'm not sure about you, but relaxing in some soft sand with an ocean breeze sounds just about perfect to me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
