10 Reasons Harris Teeter Is The Real MVP

Think what you want. Say what you want. I will forever defend the greatest grocery store that is Harris Teeter. Here are 10 reasons why you should too.

1. Open 24 Hours

This is the number one reason why Harris Teeter is the best. Just finished up in the library, realized you didn't eat all day, and it's 1 a.m? Your fridge is empty and you don't want to kill yourself with Taco bell? Head on over to the Teets! Buy yourself some hummus and veggies, tortellini and sauce, Mrs. T's pierogies, WHATEVER your bod is craving in that moment, Teeter will most likely have for you.

2. Chocolate Cake

You can always count on there being individual slices of chocolate cake for less than $2. Rich, moist, chocolatey goodness, at any time of the day or night.

3. Wine Selection

To accompany that slice of chocolate cake when you're having "one of those nights", grab yourself a bottle of wine. Whether you're looking to drown in some cheap Barefoot Moscato or to splurge on nicer quality, the options are endless.

4. Free Samples

Okay, so it's no Costco, BUT, you can always find some good samples around a Harris Teeter. My friends and I like to go for free three course meals: some baby carrots and hummus for appetizer, a meat/cheese and cracker for dinner, and a cake or cookie for dessert. Delicious, economical, and productive!

5. Organic

Though the array of organic produce isn't the best I've seen, they definitely still have the most important of the organic fruits and veggies. They even try to promote and sell produce from local farmers. Harris Teeter also sells its own organic brand; good quality, natural products, significantly cheaper than Whole Foods.

6. Starbucks

At least in the Burlington, NC location, there is a Starbucks inside near the check-out. I'm not a huge Starbucks/coffee girl, but I've witnessed many coffee purchases that seemed necessary for optimum productivity during the rest of the shopping spree (typically Sunday morning grocery shopping).

7. Flowers

One day a week, I believe Tuesdays, a large selection of flowers/plants are on sale. There is always a beautiful variety of plants and flowers in the store, but it's not usually the first thing we think to buy while grocery shopping. Guys, why don't you do your shopping on a Tuesday and pick up a tiny bouquet for your girl (or better, your mom!) on the way out.

8. Convenience

First of all, most Harris Teeter locations are the perfect size; not too big where the shopping experience is completely overwhelming, but also not too small where you feel crammed and still can't find anything. Most locations also have home delivery or a pick-up option, where you can do your shopping online, an employee gets everything off the shelves for you, and then when you show up at the store it's all ready!

9. Kid-Friendly

Harris Teeter prioritizes building relationships with local communities. They have a number of programs that give back to families in need in the community, to children and schools, and to USO and Wounded Warrior. How do we really know that Teets loves the kids? There are always free cookies for kids by the produce section so Mom can bribe the kids with a cookie if they promise to eat their broccoli tonight.

10. VIC Card

Sure, most stores have their own rewards cards, but I still value my VIC card more than anything. That bad boy constantly gets me awesome deals and I wouldn't leave the house without it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
