10 Quotes From The Fosters That Address Equality

The Fosters is a television show about a lesbian couple who are foster parents. They have an older son Brandon and they have adopted a set of twins. The show begins with them saving a brother and sister from an abusive foster home. I think this show is incredible. I personally have lesbian grandparents and they have amazing parenting skills.

I was so glad to see a lesbian couple being parents on a television show. Their names and Stef and Lena Adams-Foster. Stef and Lena are amazing people and parents. Not only does this show bring the LGBTQ+ community to light, but it also brings publicity to foster care, immigration, and disabilities. Each episode deals with an important issue and delivers a heart warming message. Below are 10 of the best quotes from the show.

1. "I'm not going to give away the truth it's the only thing I have left."

Giphy

Callie says this when she is going to court. She has to speak about a foster brother who raped her. He was found not guilty.

2. ""The thing is, if you're taught to hide what makes you different, you end of feeling a lot of shame about who you are, and that's not okay."

Giphy

Lena says this to Jude about being gay. No one should feel ashamed of being who he or she truly is.

3."If he can't handle the math genius and the pink nails, well, then he doesn't deserve you. Don't play small, my love. Not for anybody."

Giphy

This is what Lena tells Mariana when she is afraid her boyfriend will break up with her for being to smart. Women should never feel they have to hold back who they are and what they can achieve to be loved.

4. "Jude, you know parents don;t love you more because you're biologically theirs."

Giphy

Rita tells Jude this because it is true. A parent doesn't love a kid more or less because of biology.

5. "I'm embarrassed by my own wedding? How is that even possible?"

Giphy

Stef says this because she is having a hard time being happy about her upcoming wedding. Her father shamed her for being gay and even sent her to have a "talking to" about it with a priest. How sad is it for her own father to make her feel ashamed of herself?

6. "DNA doesn't make a family love, love does."

Giphy

One of the many reasons no type of family should be discriminated against when it comes to foster care and adoption.

7. "The best way to fight back is to rise above."

Giphy

When people do you wrong, don't stoop to their level. Continue to do the RIGHT thing. When you are constantly judged for your lifestyle it is easy to just give up. Don't give in to that negative mind space. Continue to love an be loved by those that matter.

8. "There is nothing wrong with being different. What's wrong is the people out there who makes us feel unsafe."

Giphy

Be the most you that you can be.

9. "I don't want to be anybody's secret."

Giphy

Don't let anyone make you feel like you need to be hidden.

10. "The Fosters, they're home. They feel like home."

Giphy

That is all that matters, not if the family is LGBTQ+. As long as you feel like you are at home.

Love makes a family. Not race, gender, or sexuality.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
