Before you begin reading this article, I just want to say that these are my own personal answers to these questions. These answers should in no way be used to judge other Atheists’ thoughts and beliefs. I wrote this so that others who have religious beliefs can understand what an Athiest believes. So without further ado:
1.Are you sure you are not Agnostic? Do you even know what that means?
Absolutely. I understand what Agnosticism is and I strongly believe that there is no higher being and never was one in the first place.
2.What do you think comes after death?
In all honesty, I don’t know. I don’t believe anyone knows. These stories of people being resurrected after being officially dead for a short time all have different stories. Some people see angels and a bright light while others see nothing at all. I believe that this is just the brain’s last activity before we are truly 100% dead. However, nobody knows because nobody can communicate with someone after death to see what is on “the other side.”
3.Were/are your parents religious?
Yes they are. They do not go to church every Sunday, but they do believe that there is a higher being out there. They accept my belief and don’t pressure me into believing something that I don’t want to believe in.
4.How do you explain the creation of the universe?
I strongly believe in the Big Bang Theory. The whole “something from nothing” argument that I hear often with people who don’t believe in it can’t be more wrong when it comes to the big bang. I won’t go into details on the theory, but in short, the universe was once contained in a small space, roughly the size of a pin head. Then something gave in and the universe expanded rapidly from that point. There are other theories, but I believe this one the most.
5.How can you explain the explainable?
I believe everything can be explained. The only problem with the mysteries that we haven’t solved yet is that we can’t go back in time to explain the wonders that the past created, and we do not have the technological capabilities to solve a lot of things. As for the paranormal, hoaxes are common and the human body has so many flaws and strange functions that can be mistaken for paranormal activity.
6.Do you have any morals?
Just because I do not read the bible or any other religious text does not mean I do not have morality. I believe that humans are capable of producing their own morality without the help of such texts. We are a civil race and can determine what is right and wrong in our society.
7.Why do you still say “bless you” when someone sneezes?
Just because I do not believe in religion, does not mean I can’t say bless you. I see it as just a polite phrase that is universally accepted by the public. Therefore, I will say bless you if someone near me sneezes.
8.What would make you believe?
Proof! If there is substantial evidence that some higher being is controlling this universe, then I will admit that I was wrong. However, I do not believe that any real proof will ever be presented.
9.What if religion never existed?
Well obviously there is no way to tell what the world would be like without it. In my personal opinion though, I think there would be substantially less wars and we would be far more technologically advanced. Math and science would be better understood and many theories and questions that we have today could be answered or solved.
10.When did you realize that you were Atheist?
This may sound corny, but I believe I always have been in a way. Even at a younger age when my parents would take me to church for Easter or Christmas, I just thought they were telling stories at church. At funerals when I was a kid, I would go up to the casket to pray, but I never knew why people did it. It made no sense to me and I thought it was weird. It wasn’t until early high school that I truly understood what my beliefs were. Now, I am strongly Atheist and express my beliefs when necessary.
I hope these answers helped those of you who were wondering about Atheists some clarification. I am no way against anyone who is religious. In fact, I respect all religions and the people who follow them. I just choose not to believe them. Thank you for reading!
