So many people base success off of wealth. There is always a concern about money, and even I find myself worrying about my future salary and whether or not I'll be able to sustain the life I desire. However, during these past few particularly stressful weeks, I've come to realize that the best things in life really are free. You may not even realize that they are the best things until you're in the library late at night and wishing you were with your friends more than wishing you were making money. Here are some of these things:
1. Getting your back scratched.
Maybe this is just me, but there are few better things than getting my back scratched.
2. Waking up at 4 a.m. and knowing you have several more hours of sleep.
At first, you feel dread thinking that you have to wake up and start a long day, but then you realize that you actually have four more hours of blissful sleep to enjoy.
3. Seeing someone you love after not seeing them for a while.
Your dog, your sibling, your parent, your best friend from home, your grandparents -- whoever it may be, seeing them after not seeing them for a few weeks, or even a few days, is one of the best feelings.
4. Laughing.
This seems obvious, but it's something I feel is overlooked so often. Laughter is weird, wonderful, and contagious. It literally releases feel-good hormones, and it's free.
5. Taking your pants off after a long day.
You can almost hear your legs sighing too.
6. Giving and receiving compliments.
Next time you think a compliment to yourself about someone else, tell them! It could make their day. And it feels good when someone does the same to you. Easy and free.
7. Dancing.
Whether it's alone in your room, or at a party with your friends, I think dancing is also underrated. You can be sad when you're dancing.
8. Waking up and having energy.
This is rare, but when it happens, it's one the greatest feelings in the world. You feel like you can do anything. However, this usually results in me taking a nap later, but naps are also one of the best things in life.
9. Falling asleep to the sound of rain.
Okay, clearly, I really love sleep.
10. Getting free food.
Let's be honest, when is the last time you have been bummed out because there is free pizza somewhere!? Never.
This is just the beginning of a long list of things that are wonderful and free. Now, go laugh with your friends and ask one of them to scratch your back!
