On several occasions I have found myself scrolling through Netflix for at least an hour, trying to find a show that looks interesting to watch. I have the same result every time -- nothing that piques my interest! This happens simply because it is nearly impossible to scan through every show Netflix offers. To save you time from scrolling endlessly through thousands of shows, I have created a list of 10 shows that I highly recommend:
1. "How I Met Your Mother" (nine seasons).
"How I Met Your Mother" ("HIMYM") is a show that will definitely have you laughing throughout its nine seasons. It is mostly set in Manhattan. The show depicts the daily lives of five friends. Each episode starts out with the main character, Ted Mosby, talking to his children and then flashes back to his life before he met his wife. Although "HIMYM" does have an underlying storyline, you can easily watch any episode and fully enjoy it, if you do not mind the risk of seeing a spoiler or two!
2. "Grey's Anatomy" (11 seasons).
If you are looking for an addicting show where it will take you a few months to catch up to its current season (depending on how much time you have on your hands), then "Grey's Anatomy" is the show for you. This TV drama focuses on the lives of hospital employees in Seattle, Wash. In my opinion, the overall storyline has become a little dry during the later seasons; nevertheless, "Grey's Anatomy" is a show that you simply cannot stop watching once you begin.
3. "The Office" (nine seasons).
I highly recommend "The Office" if you are looking for a hilarious show with a minimal continuous storyline that allows you to watch any episode without needing much background information. The show even includes a couple with whom any viewer will immediately fall in love (and I think we all know who that couple is!). Just watch one episode, any episode, and you will be hooked.
4. "Breaking Bad" (five seasons).

5. "Dexter" (eight seasons).
Dexter is a man who murders the "evil" people of Miami, Fla., and "Dexter" the show follows the ins and outs of his daily life. Oddly enough, Dexter is a character who is very likable and easy to side with despite his deadly and very illegal actions. When looking for a comedic drama whose beginning seasons are more entertaining than later ones, I would suggest diving into the world of "Dexter."
6. "Scandal" (four seasons).
"Scandal" takes place in Washington, D.C. and focuses on the positive but mostly negative aspects of politics. What makes "Scandal" unique is its several characters who go back and forth between supporting the big-name politicians and going against them. Keep your eye out for plot twists in many episodes, so if you are eager for a show that will keep you on the edge of your seat constantly, watch "Scandal."
7. "House of Cards" (three seasons).
"House of Cards" also focuses on the political realm of Washington, D.C. but is slightly darker than "Scandal." This show is difficult to explain without giving too many details, but I can assure you that the writing and acting is phenomenal and quite complex. "House of Cards" is a brilliant show that I would recommend to anyone searching for a serious, "have to pay attention to every word spoken" kind of show.
8. "Arrested Development" (four seasons).
An extremely unique show, "Arrested Development" is a Netflix original. At first, it is a little hard to get used to, but if you continue watching it ends up being a show that is extremely pleasant to watch. This is a type of show that you can walk in and out of the room a few times on while the show keeps playing -- a positive for most college students!
9. "Orange Is the New Black" (three seasons).
This show portrays a woman who willingly turns herself in for a "small" crime and ends up in jail for quite some time. While in jail, we see how the other inmates and guards influence her to become almost an entirely different person. While "Orange Is the New Black" ("OITNB") is a funny show, it is also at times quite serious and dramatic. This contrast creates a diverse series.
10. "The Flash" (one season).
I recommend "The Flash" to anyone looking for a superhero show that will not take too long to complete since it lasts only one season (I don't think there will be another season, but I'm not 100 percent sure). This show tells the story of the Flash from the very beginning; anyone who enjoys science fiction and a superhero-versus-villain plots will find it very entertaining!
