Love, heartbreak, and high school. These three things are the essential mix for classic movies. I am only 18, but I have seen so many movies. My favorite genre, however, is cheesy romance. I live for the nerdy girl getting the high school football player. These movies are playful, humorous, and breathtaking. I have watched these movies multiple times, as they as the 10 best in all of history. Here are my top ten movies that every teenage girl should watch, from the decent flicks to the blockbusters:
#10: License to Drive
This classic came out in 1988, with a young Corey Haim. A teenager fails his driver's test, so he can't drive the car of his dreams. However, he is very rebellious and takes the car anyways. Hilarity ensues as Haim and his best friend go on a wild adventure. I randomly found this movie, and I have to say it's not as stupid as it seems. It's actually pretty funny.
#9: Mean Girls
Okay, so of course I had to include this one. Mean Girls, which came out in 2004, is the movie of our generation. A girl comes to town from Africa and meets the Plastics. I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it, but a lot of stuff goes down in the town, and that makes it interesting. It's not the best, but it's not the worst. Right now, they're even making a Broadway musical out of it.
#8: 16 Candles
This movie is about a young 16-year old Molly Ringwald whose important sweet sixteen birthday is totally forgotten by her parents. I watched this movie when I was 16, so that was pretty ironic. She meets her crush, and the rest is history. This film has one of the most iconic scenes ever.
#7: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Starring Matthew Broderick, this cult classic is every kid who pretends to be sick to get out of school. However, this fake illness leads to a day of mischief and adventure with the whole school believing he's dying. One of my best friends is obsessed with Matthew Broderick, and she made me watch it. I have to say I wasn't disappointed.
#6: 10 Things I Hate About You
Coming out in 1999 (A.KA. the year I was born), this movie is still very popular today. A pretty and popular younger sister wants to date, but her father won't let her unless her older and anti-boy sister has a boyfriend. Intervention ensues, and the older sister meets a handsome teen. I love this movie, as I can relate to the older sister.
#5: 13 Going On 30
Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, how could you not love that pairing? A geeky and lonely 13-year old make a wish at her birthday party to be 30, and it comes true. Think 'Big', but a girl version. She goes through trials and tribulations of 30, all with the help of her best friend. Her world is turned upside down, and she has to navigate her way through it.
#4: A Cinderella Story
If you've seen One Tree Hill, you know Chad Michael Murray. He is a dream. Anyways, the title itself is pretty self-explanatory. Hilary Duff plays an orphan raised by her wicked stepmother, and then she meets Murray. It's a typical Cinderella Story. The two talk secretly through their phones but don't know who the other person is. On the night of the ball, everything changes. This movie's romance always makes me swoon.
#3: Can't Buy Me Love
Holy moly this movie is good. A young and very hot Patrick Dempsey offers a girl money to be his girlfriend for a month. Like I would need to accept money to be his girlfriend! Anyways, things take a turn when the girl actually starts to like Dempsey, and the movie is so good from there. I also randomly found this movie on Netflix, and I'm so glad I did. It's a very enjoyable film, and the romance is heartwarming.
#2: The Breakfast Club
Literally, what can I say about The Breakfast Club? Literally nothing. I'm pretty positive everyone has seen this movie, but for those who haven't, let's refresh. A group of six teens goes to their Saturday detention. They are all from different walks of life, however, they find a way to become friends. I sobbed at the end of this, it was that good.
#1: Say Anything
This is one of my favorite movies of all time! John Cusack plays a geeky teen who has a major crush on the it-girl, who has family issues. She returns the love, but her father disapproves of the relationship. This film has an iconic scene with a boombox that makes me want a boyfriend who will do things like that. There are so many iconic quotes that make the movie the best!
