Life can definitely get overwhelming sometimes but there are many things you can do to help relieve the stresses that you face every day. Mental health can be complicated so it can be hard to know what to do when feeling overwhelmed. It's important to make little changes that will help in the long run. I've made a list of some things that have helped me through tough times in hopes that they can help you too!
1. Every night say what you are grateful for that day and what you are proud that you did
It gives you a chance to reflect on your day and find the good things that happened. Rather than going to bed with the idea that it was a horrible day, you have a chance to be grateful for what you've accomplished. It’s easier than you would think to find positive things that happened during a bad day.
2. Stay Hydrated!
Making sure to drink water throughout the day can very easily be overlooked but it’s important to do. It gives you more energy, helps promote healthy skin, and helps cleanse out all the bad stuff in our bodies. Water can work wonders if we drink enough of it.
3. Allow yourself time to relax
If you are just feeling overwhelmed give yourself permission to take a nap. The world is not going to come to an end if you put things off for a little bit. Take a nap or watch a movie, whatever you need to do to recharge and get things done with a clear mind.
4. Start a journal
Even if you just write down a sentence summarizing your day. Putting your thoughts down on paper can be a huge help in sorting out your ideas and solving problems. Sometimes writing things down gives us the chance to see things from a different point of view and reflect on our feelings.
5. Plan out your day
It can be really stressful trying to figure out how you're going to get everything done in a day. Writing out a plan the night before can make things a little less stressful because you have an idea of how your day is going to go. Planning things out can give you a little more control over your life but remember not to worry if you don't stick to the plan. Some things don’t go as planned and that’s okay!
6. Make short-term goals
Making goals that are reachable is so important! You have to make sure that you are being realistic for yourself. Even if you make a goal that can be done in ten minutes, at least you're getting it done. The point isn’t about how big the goal is, it's making sure that you reach your little goals that add to the big picture of your future.
7. Get rid of 3 things that you don't use anymore
Clearing out clutter can be so relieving and make your life feel less overwhelming. If you don't use it, toss it! Doing this will make you feel so much better and more organized.
8. Learn something new
Listen to a podcast, watch a youtube video, even just go on Wikipedia! Look up something that you've always wanted to know more about. Learning new things is exciting and gives you a sense of accomplishment!
9. Go for a walk
Being active and getting up on your feet can work wonders! It gives you a chance to get some fresh air and clear your head. Put your favorite songs on and explore some new places.
10. Get off Social Media
Put your phone away! You don't have to text everyone back immediately. Take time for yourself, unplug, and just enjoy doing whatever you want. Being away from social media for a while can be great because you aren’t concerned with what everyone else is doing and have a chance to focus on yourself.
11. Talk about it
It is important to have people to lean on when life gets overwhelming but people don't know how you feel unless you tell them. Make it clear that you need some extra help and I'm sure that they will help take off some of the burden. Also, having someone to vent to can be insanely helpful when nothing seems to be going your way.
I hope some of these little things help you get through the stressful days! Don't forget to take time for yourself :) Mental Heath is always worth your time!!
