Halfway into the semester and you're already sick of the dining hall food. You find yourself wandering around and cringing at the thought of eating anything offered. For the third day in a row, your dinner consists of melon, goldfish, and peanut butter toast. You sit there, pondering why you even used a precious swipe. What if you could just eat in your room? Wouldn't that make things so much easier? Here are 10 of the best foods to keep in your dorm room mini-fridge, whether you're on-the-go or eating a whole meal:
1. Baby Carrots and Hummus
If you're like me, you have a problem with snacking while studying. Instead of reaching for that bag of greasy potato chips, break out the carrots and a bowl of hummus. This way, if you end up eating a whole bag, you won't feel as guilty.
2. Bananas
Bananas are the easiest fruit to eat on the go, and they're full of potassium. To avoid buying them, swipe a few from the dining hall every time you go, and soon you'll have a nice pile of bananas.
3. Yogurt
This is good for a quick breakfast if you don't have time to go to the dining hall. My favorite is Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom. It's healthy and fills you up, and you can buy some granola to mix in to add some crunch.
4. Milk (Dairy, Almond, Soy, etc.)
This is good if you have cereal you want to eat but keep forgetting to bring to the dining hall, or even just to drink if you really like milk. Or, if you're lactose intolerant and allergic to soy, buy almond milk, because the dining hall has a thing against it.
5. Salsa
Don't forget the chips! Salsa is great because you can add it to rice and beans from the dining hall to create your own burrito bowl. It's a great dinner that's tasty and easy to make. If you wanna try something new, buy some mango fruit salsa. It's so delicious and tastes great with a lot of different things!
6. Some Form of Chocolate
Don't buy a lot, but keep it for an emergency. Stressful day? Have a piece of chocolate. You'll instantly feel better. Dark chocolate is even better because it has an added health value -- and it tastes better.
7. Grapes
You can never have too much fruit, and who doesn't love grapes? They're perfect for snacking
during those late-night study sessions because they fulfill your sugar craving without all those empty calories and carbohydrates from junk foods.
8. Walter filter
Go green and stop buying plastic water bottles! A water filter is a beautiful thing to have, especially if you're uncomfortable drinking unfiltered water from the bathroom. It saves money and the environment at the same time.
9. Juice
You can't live off just water and milk. Refresh your taste buds by keeping a small carton of juice in your fridge. I usually buy cranberry juice -- no cocktails, those aren't real juice -- but sometimes I'll get orange juice to change it up a little.
10. String Cheese
String cheese is my go-to snack when I want something quick. It's less than 100 calories and gives you a little kick of energy. Plus, it's fun to eat.
