All "Grey's Anatomy" fans know that every time they turn the show on, they're going to laugh a little and cry a lot. There is no doubt that your favorite character will go through a devastating blow at one point in the episode, and if you’re as obsessed as I am, you’re going to feel their pain as well. We "Grey’s" fans have our good friend (who also happens to be the writer of this wonderful show), Shonda Rhimes, to thank for that. As we can see from episode to episode, she means business and isn’t afraid to take the risk, and make her fans cry every episode.
10. When Meredith “tried to drown herself” in the bathtub, was saved by Derek, but then just a couple of short scenes later, she is knocked into the ocean where she almost drowns again and is saved by Derek again.
Sorry Meredith, Shonda just really wanted you to drown that day or she just really wanted Derek to be "your knight in shining whatever."
9. When April leaves for Jordan after the tragic death of her baby, comes back from Jordan for Jackson, he decides he wants a divorce and then, minutes later we find out she's pregnant.
Either Shonda is like the rest of us, and just can’t see a life where there is no Jackson and April or she just really wants to get April back for leaving Jackson when he was coping with the loss of the baby too, because lets be honest, Jackson Avery is the definition of the perfect guy.
8. When Derek nearly escapes a car accident and is able to save a mother and her daughter and then minutes later when he goes to call Meredith, he is tragically killed when a huge truck hits him…
No one is quite over Derek’s death, yet. Killing Derek Shepard might have been one of the worst things to happen in television history for "Grey's Anatomy" fans, especially because he was a hero in the same episode. Jesus, Shonda, give us a break. We love you, Derek.
7. When Meredith is finally able to fully open her heart to Derek after everything they've been through, and the chief drops the bomb that Derek in fact has a ring and then Derek throws it in the woods.
OK, I totally get the whole Derek’s mental breakdown thing (we’ve all been there), but come on—did you really have to throw the ring into the woods by your trailer? You finally have Meredith in a place where she wants to marry you, and you do that? Not a good move, McDreamy.
6. When George O’Malley enlists in the army, but then is hit by a bus saving a woman.
Like it wasn’t bad enough that George was leaving Seattle Grace to go to war (George, who probably couldn’t handle it, by the way) but then is hit by a bus saving people right there in Seattle anyway. Also side note: him writing 007 on Meredith’s hand: iconic.
5. When Callie and Arizona finally complete their couple's therapy and everyone (including Arizona) thinks that they’re finally in a good place and they can finally be happy with their marriage, but then Callie turns around and says she was happier without her…
Hold on one second. Here we all are, thinking that Arizona finally got over the whole leg thing, their couple's therapy cycle has finally ended and they can live happily ever after, but then Callie says that she “finally feels free” without Arizona and she “doesn’t want to fix us anymore”—a little piece of all of us died.
4.When Alex Karev gets shot and Mark and Lexie help him, and Mark thinks he is going to get on Lexie’s good side by saving Alex’s life but Lexie says “I love you” to Alex.
So, not only was the shooting of "Grey’s Anatomy" probably the most intense episode in TV history, but we have Lexi and Mark finally connecting after what seems like an impossible breakup. Mark, trying to be the perfect guy for Lexi, saves her current boyfriend in hopes to impress her, and all he gets for it is her saying she loves someone else. Sorry McSteamy, I still love you.
3.When Christina gets pregnant with Burke’s baby and is going to have an abortion but then collapses in Burke’s OR because she has an ectopic pregnancy.
So, not only does Christina not tell Burke that she is pregnant with his baby, he finds out what happened to her when he reads it on the OR board hours later. Totally obviously not how Christina planned the whole thing, but maybe that was Shonda’s way of punishing Yang for keeping it a secret and planning to get an abortion.
2. When Lexi and Mark finally exchange "I love yous" in the plane crash episode, and Lexi dies, Mark survives and then gives a whole speech to Jackson that you need to tell the people you love them when you have the chance and then also dies.
The only way to possibly cope with McSteamy dying is by telling yourself that he and Lexi are finally happy together, somewhere in some other life. Otherwise, you will want to rip your heart out.
1.When Izzy cuts Denny’s LVAD wire at the same time that Burke (who is supposed to perform his surgery) gets shot.
So, Burke comes all the way to give Denny the heart that they practically stole, and he gets shot. Izzy, making rash decisions as always, cuts his LVAD wire at the same damn time! But that’s not even the worst part: Erica Hahn finally does the surgery only to have Denny die hours later from a stroke that no one saw coming. Shonda must have been a really big fan of karma. Bottom line: don’t steal a heart from another transplant list patient, and the love of your life won’t die of a stroke hours later, and his surgeon won’t get shot potentially losing all function of his hand.
Thanks Shonda, for making us "Grey's Anatomy" fans laugh, cry and have a heart attack every Thursday night(:
