I don't know about you, but I personally don't like wasting my money when I can save it for better things. After a while going out isn't fun anymore. Spending your money on a cover, drinks, and tips becomes a waste. As a college student, I am already limited on what I can spend my low budget on. On a Friday night I would prefer to stay in, save my money, and do fun things with some friends!
1. Movie Night
Movie nights are the perfect way to spend no money and have lots of fun with friends! Binge-watch a show on Netflix, watch your favorite movie, or have a "Harry Potter" marathon! You can even organize a weekly ‘bad movie night’ with your friends, where you get to giggle through spectacular cinematic flops.
2. Explore Your City
On a beautiful day, go explore your college campus and the city. Find what hidden places these beautiful city's have: trails, rivers, or something as simple as antique shops.
3. Volunteer
I know, I know. Volunteering doesn’t sound that fun but it actually is. Especially when you get your friends involved with the same volunteer work- you can have fun together! Also, volunteering is so rewarding and a great way to give back to the community.
4. Game Night
Games aren’t just for kids. The options are limitless. Cards Against Humanity is so much fun to play! You can even play classics like Monopoly or UNO. Make games more fun by changing the rules. For example, in Monopoly: if you land on Boardwalk, but you don’t have enough money to buy it, you have to tweet at Justin Bieber six times. You must say how much you love him and can’t explain it to anyone on Twitter.
5. Dance Party
Dance parties can be a blast. Make sure you have plenty of dancers and the hottest mix-tape to play! If you’re not good at dancing then you can be part of the roaring audience for your friends.
6. Thrift Shopping
Check out your local thrift store and try on silly clothes or look for hidden gems!
7. Stargaze
Enjoy the beauty of this world by setting out a blanket in a dark area (no street lights!) and gaze at the stars. Some apps to download for tracking constellations are Skyview and Star Walk .
8. Scavenger Hunt at Target
Scavenger hunts are always fun! Especially when you make them into competitions. Grab a couple of friends and head to the best store ever, Target, for a friendly competition of finding items! Try not to spend too much time scavenging in this store or you’ll certainly be broke.
9. Ninja Wars
Ninja Wars is a game I was introduced to by one of my Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCS) friends. First you’re going to need a group of people that want to play. The object of the game is to shoot people with water guns but not just any person. At the beginning of the game everyone is assigned someone to shoot, but the twist is you don’t know who’s targeting you. So you basically run around looking for your target to soak with a water gun while trying not to get shot yourself. If you’re soaked by your “hitman” then you are out and the last one standing wins.
10. Geocaching
Geocaching is one of my favorite random pastimes. Geocaching is similar to treasure hunting but there’s not actually treasure, just satisfaction that you found the item. You can download the app on your phone and it will show you all the items near you that have been hidden! Some have clues, and when you find the item you sign and date it for everyone to see. This is another great way to explore the city around you!
