10 Fun Things You Can Do Near Richmond, Va. This Summer

As summer approaches, the bucket list planning starts to begin. There are so many things you can do over the summer at an affordable price (especially if you are a broke college student). Here is a list of just 10 things that you can check off your list for the summer.

1. Go to a concert.

There are plenty of concerts happening locally or even just a few hours away. Concerts can be inexpensive. I mean, you don't need the good seat at every concert, right? You can go with your family or friends and have a really nice time.

2. Have a photo-shoot.

Go to a garden full of sunflowers or a cute park and take photos of you and one of your friends. Make a day out of it with plenty of outfit changes and different poses. Later that day, go home, upload them on your computer, and start editing them if you wish.

3. Visit Museums.

I am a big fan of going to museums and a lot of museums are actually free or little to no costs. It gives you something to do, and you can obtain a lot of information from visiting a museum.

4. Go to D.C.

D.C. is filled with so many fun things to do. There are so many restaurants and tourist attractions that can make a whole day's worth of activities.

5. Go to the beach.

Even if you do not want to stay in a hotel, go to a beach for the day. Sit by the stand, dip your toes in the water, and go to one of those cute ice cream shops alongside the border.

6. Go to the pool.

If the beach is too far away, the pool is always the next best option.

7. Try new restaurants.

Trying new restaurants is one of my many favorite things to do. I like to try new places because I think it is fun. Just explore some new places, and maybe you will find your next "go-to" spot.

8. Watch a Netflix series.

I am currently watching Grey's Anatomy, and I am starting to plan on what Netflix series I want to start next. Netflix is a great way to find a new show of interest, and relax.

9. Visit Carytown.

If you live near Richmond, then Carytown is always fun to go to. Sometimes they have festivals going on, and there are a lot of restaurants to visit there as well.

10. Go to Belle Isle.

Again, if you live near Richmond, Belle Isle is very fun. If you want to get in the water, or just sit by the rocks; this is a great spot for both and then plus more.

These are just 10 fun activities to do over the summer, but there is much more to do. Just keep an eye out for activities, and start planning a bucket list. Keep on checking things off the list. Have a great and safe summer!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
