When most of us come home from college, all we want to do is sleep in. If you are like me, sleeping in and watching TV all day can get old. The holiday season only comes once a year and sleeping away this time of year is not on my agenda. With that in mind, here are a couple things you can do to have fun this holiday season.
1. Take a late night drive.
Get in a car with some friends, play some Christmas music and look at all the lights around the neighborhood. The best part about this is that the drive can take up as much or as little time as you want. Of course it is important to stay safe with this activity.
2. Go ice skating.
Even if you have never done it before, take a friend or two and try it out. Most skating rinks have public skate times that you should take advantage of.
3. Do some holiday baking.
Go pick out your favorite batter from the grocery store or make your favorite recipe from scratch. Decorate with red and green icing or make your treats into holiday shapes to make them festive. If you are feeling generous, you may even package them and give them to friends for a fun and yummy gift.
4. Go (window) shopping.
Whether you decide to spend a few bucks or not, shopping can be a great way to enjoy the holidays. Most shops also have unique window displays that are enjoyable just to look at.
5. Host a holiday party.
This obviously requires a bit of planning, but is pretty much guaranteed fun for all attendees. You can do everything from a gift exchange to a hot chocolate recipe exchange.
6. Deck the halls.
Impress your friends and neighbors with some lights and a nicely decorated home. Decorating your home can be a lot of fun. You will feel quite accomplished when you complete your decorating.
7. Have a holiday photo shoot.
All you need is a camera, some friends and a festive background. Not only will you be able to capture these memories, but, you will also have an awesome Instagram post at your finger tips.
8. Attend a holiday fair.
Most towns have a holiday fair or carnival planned for this time of year. Even if you have to drive to get to one, these can be a great way to take in the holiday festivities.
9. Attend a holiday show.
Local theaters and arts buildings usually host a version of 'The Nutcracker Suite' or 'A Christmas Carol'. Both are examples of shows you can go see while supporting your local arts community.
10. Volunteer at a local charity.
'The best way to spread Christmas cheer is' to give to others. Take a friend with you and bring joy to those who need it most. Not only will it make them feel good, but it will make you feel good too.
