10 Fun Things To Do In and Around Charlotte, NC During Autumn
Kathleen Griffin

Ahhh, fall! The crisp autumn air, the colorful leaves falling around us, the smell of pumpkin spice in the air. What could be better? There are so many things in the great state of North Carolina to do in autumn. Here is a list of my ten favorite things to do in and around Charlotte, NC in October.

1.Carrigan Farms

1261 Oakridge Farm Hwy, Mooresville, NC 28115

There is fun for the whole family here! From hayrides (day and night) to bon fires to Scarrigan Farms haunted trail, there is something fun for everyone!

2. Scarowinds

Enjoy all of your favorite rides, haunted houses, and if being scared isn't your thing, they are opened during the day and are completely family friendly. Entry fee at gate is $57.

3. Crowders Mountains

What is better than a morning hike in the fall? Walking up a gorgeous mountain, looking up at the changing leaves, collecting pine cones, and arriving at one of the most beautiful views in the great state of North Carolina.

4. Old Salem

This historic district of Winston-Salem and one of the oldest, restored Moravian villages in America. Grab lunch at the tavern and then for dessert, go to the bakery and get a sugar cake and Moravian cookies (lemon, sugar, and ginger are personal favorites) and wander around this beautiful historic living museum.5. Oktoberfest

5. Oktoberfest

Waldhorn is a German restaurant in Pineville, North Carolina. For $4.00 you can have an authentic Bavarian Oktoberfest experience.

6. Pumpkin Patch

Hodges Family Farm

3900 Rocky River Road

Charlotte, NC 28215

Free parking, free admissions, free tour of the farm, hay mountain, and $5 pumpkins! Hodges Farm pumpkin patch is fun for everyone.

7.Renaissance Festival

It's just one of those things that happens during the fall and reminds you of it.

8. Muggles Market

Saturday October 21, 2017 10:00 AM-4:00 PM

"It's like Etsy for Geeks"...sounds like my kind of place.

9. Guts Pumpkin Carving Contest

October 21, 2017 2PM at BB&T Ballpark

10. Haunted Statesville Ghost Tour

October 20-21 & October 27-28, 2017

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
