This is a great big world full of a lot of cool foods. I love buying new food items just to try them out. Sometimes I will love it, other times not so much. So after much thought, I have decided to compile a list of foods that everyone needs to try, however basic some of them may be... Let's get right into it!
1. Coconut Water
For the love of all that is water. This product is by far the best thing (next to margaritas and sangrias) I have drank all summer. All this product consists of is natural water straight from a young coconut. Not to be confused with coconut milk, coconut water doesn't have as much sugar or calories. However, it is jam packed with potassium and antioxidants making it great go too for a post work out drink. Plus, it's naturally hydrating which is always a plus. Not to mention, if you aren't a fan of the bland taste of water this beverage will light up your taste buds and keep you running all day long. Seriously, I swear by coconut water. Go buy some. Like yesterday.
2. Lily's Dark Chocolate Premium Baking Chips
This is pretty much a fancy way of saying dark chocolate chips. But the reason these chocolate chips are so amazing is because they are vegan. I am not a vegan myself, but for those of you who are these are a must have. You can cook with them, but you can also just eat them straight out of the bag as a small afternoon snack pick me up. At 50 calories for 60 chips, you don't have to worry about busting out of your pants for these bad boys. They are also sugar free and sweetened naturally with stevia.
3. Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt
This is bliss in a yogurt container. It's greek yogurt, which usually I am not a fan of, but the slight flavor of strawberry or mixed berry has me wanting more. This greek yogurt comes in at 120 calories which is perfect as a breakfast base. Once you mix it with granola and fresh fruit it will leave you feeling full all day. Again, just like the chocolate chips it is sweetened with stevia so you can just skip the sugar for this product. It also has zero grams of fat. Woo!
4. Veggie Straws
Because who doesn't need that little crunch in their life? The perks of this tasty snack is that you can have more of em for less. About 8 potato chips (depending on the brand and kind) can come in around 130, but you can have 38 veggie straws for 130 calories so snack away. This snack won't break the bank and you can feel like you are indulging by eating a lot of them. They also taste good and come in natural colors that make you believe they took these straws straight from the vegetable source. All in all it's a good product that you should try if you haven't already.
5. Basil
I feel as though I love basil so much I should probably just name my first born after it. Put it on everything, but mostly pizza or things involving mozzarella and tomatoes. Seriously, all you need is a slice of a tomato, some mozzarella cheese, a basil leave, and a balsamic glaze drizzle and you'll be on cloud nine. It is my new go to for this summer. I eat it plain, on top of portobello mushrooms, on a sandwich thin as pizza, and even in the form of sandwiches. It is a combo that can't be stopped and the driving force is basil.
6. Tofu Noodles
OK, so I haven't actually tried this one so feedback would be appreciated but I found these tofu noodles at the store the other day and bought them. First off, they only have about ten calories per serving, secondly barely any fat and carbs. Now, being a girl I try and avoid carbs for the most part like the plague, but this gives me an open invite to indulge in some spaghetti so what more could a girl want?! They look versatile and the recipes I found on the internet for tofu noodles are endless. Can't wait to try these bad boys out.
7. Watermelon
Ahhh watermelon. You never really remember how good watermelon is until your biting into a nice slice of it. Make sure to try and keep it seedless because it's just easier for everyone then. Watermelon is a summer necessity it's perfect on a hot day and can keep everyone happy. Plus, it's a healthy snack that even the kids will love to eat.
8. Tumaro's Lets Skip The Sandwich Wrap
These wraps taste seriously so amazing and are almost guilt free with less carbs than normal bread and only 60 calories. I enjoy all my favorite sandwich combinations in these little wraps and am just as satisfied as if I would have put all my toppings in between two pieces of bread. These wraps bring me joy and happiness to indulge in all my favorite sandwiches.
9. Arctic Zero Cake Batter Ice Cream
What if I told you that you could have a full pint of ice cream for only 150 calories? Well, you'd probably tell me I'm dreaming... but this delicious ice cream seriously is only 150 calories for the entire pint which brings it right around 35 calories per serving. Ben & Jerry's average around 300 per serving which would bring it around 1200 for the whole container. Arctic Zero cake batter is definitely the way to go for an extra special treat to yourself. It also tastes delicious and is gluten-free and dairy-free. It's totally worth the struggle of trying to find it because not every grocery store carries this delicacy.
10. Quaker Lower Sugar Map & Brown Sugar Oatmeal
Let the breakfast God's rejoice on this one because this oatmeal is the best. At 120 calories it is great for breakfast accompanied with either a low fat yogurt or fresh fruit. It will keep you satisfied all morning long and will definitely give you a source of energy. I swear by oatmeal. I am a total breakfast person and am not myself without it, however, oatmeal gives me that little extra push. It truly stands out from the crowd and is my single handed favorite breakfast food. Go oatmeal!
Well, that just about rounds out the list. These things are worth the try especially if you like trying to be a little healthy, all while still enjoying life and not restricting yourself too much. Let's face it a good diet is all about balance so never cut yourself off from yummy stuff completely. I hope you enjoy this list and get some ideas from it, happy snacking!
