1) “Welcome to society,

We hope you enjoy your stay,

And please feel free to be yourself,

As long as it’s in the right way,

Make sure you love your body,

Not too much or we’ll tear you down,

We’ll bully you for smiling,

And then wonder why you frown,

We’ll tell you that you’re worthless,

That you shouldn’t make a sound,

And then cry with all the others,

As you’re buried in the ground,

You can fall in love with anyone,

As long as it’s who we choose,

And we’ll let you have your opinions,

But please shape them to our views,

Welcome to society,

We promise that we won’t deceive,

And one more rule now that you’re here,

There’s no way you can leave.” ~e.h

2) “She threw herself at heartbreak,

Like a moth drawn to a flame,

Patching up her broken wings,

Just to try it once again,

And the world thought her foolish,

For she never seemed to learn,

But how do you save somebody,

Who’s convinced that they should burn?” ~e.h

3) “She’d learnt to keep a shallow mind,

So people didn’t have to swim,

And it led them all to think they knew,

The thoughts she held within,

But below the wading pool she’d made,

Was a world left unexplored,

An ocean of her feelings,

Hidden under the pool’s floor,

The waters turned to blackness,

Where not even she had dared to go,

Stretching from behind her eyes,

To the ends of all her toes,

She didn’t want to dive right down,

And find what lay hidden there,

Because she knew with all deep water,

Came a deadly lack of air,

But she didn’t foresee the lonely boy,

Who found a crack in her cement,

Broke free of her wading pool,

And into the darkness he went,

He told her not to fear her thoughts,

As he took her by the hand,

And swum with her to places,

That their lungs could not withstand,

In their new-found love they both forgot,

The importance of their breath,

And interwoven in the world they’d found,

They both drowned in its depths.” ~e.h

4) “Our lives are one big puzzle,

We don’t know how many pieces we’ve got,

There are people that fit in quite nicely

And ones that do not,

We’re constantly adding more pieces,

All the memories of things we’ve been through,

We ass laughter and tears and adventure,

And the lessons we’ve learnt to be true,

Everyone has their own puzzle,

There will be ones where you do not fit,

Don’t you ever dare make your piece smaller,

Just so you can live there for a bit,

If you keep cutting off all your edges,

One day you won’t recognize what you see,

One day you won’t recognize what you see,

And you’ll forger the person you once were,

Before the world told you who you should be,

Make the most of each piece in your puzzle,

It’ll be a grand masterpiece when it’s done,

So you won’t have to look back when it’s over,

And realize you’ve left out the sun.” ~e.h

5) “Life is unpredictable,

It changes with the seasons,

Even your coldest winter,

Happens for the best of reasons,

And though it feels eternal,

Like all you’ll ever do is freeze,

I promise spring is coming,

And with it, brand new leaves.” ~e.h

6) “Never place yourself above your fellow man, for we are all,

each and every one of us,

born of equal rights to the nourishing earth beneath

and the wonder of the stars above.

Becca Lee

7) “A ring a flowers strewn upon her head

and tangled through her hair

was the only crown she had ever known.

But, to her, it held more worth than its weight in gold –

For it held love, peace and contentment

and reminded her that life and happiness

were not about grandeur, having more or superficial riches,

but about growing, blossoming and blooming within.

It was about rising up out of the darkness

of your surrounds to the light above,

but forever staying connected and true to your roots.”

Becca Lee

8) “I am still learning.

There are days when I forget how to love myself –

times that I give in to negativity

and allow doubt to overshadow my dreams.

I am guilty of speaking unkindly to my body,

hiding my face beneath a false mask of prey,

and trying to change the truths of my heart.

But I can forgive myself,

and that is what makes it okay.

I have many mistakes left to make and I am still learning.”

Becca Lee

9) “To her, life wasn’t about fitting in

or standing out, it was about being true,

wholeheartedly and contentedly,

to the entirety of her being.

And so, the only path she chose to take in life

was the path that her heart and soul led her on,

because deep down she knew

that some rules were made to be broken

and sometimes you need to fall

before you can learn how to fly.”

Becca Lee

10) ““Here..” she said,

baring her stained glass heart in her outstretched hands,

“it is yours if only you have the courage to take it,

the strength to hold it and the patience to keep it.

It’s not perfect, I know, – it has been chipped and cracked,

But I promise you that it is not broken.

It still beats with passion and love aplenty.

It is the most resplendent part of me

and the light it holds within shines all the brighter

for the times and places that it has been worn thin.

So it is yours if only you have the courage to take it,

The strength to hold it and the patience to keep it…””

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
